Just saw the ad for Confused.com with James Corden driving an old Mercedes and noticed that his car has plates on it with confused written on them (never mind that they have too many letters to be legal) but he spins the car and parks it on the wrong side of the road between two others.
Funny how it's the little things like him parking illegally that stand out...

He needs stabbing in the neck with his own over-used dinner fork.

You mean multi-award winning actor, writer, producer, comedian, singer, television host James Corden?

You mean James Cordon, BAFTA award winning actor for best comedy performance in Gavin & Stacey which he co-wrote?

Or BAFTA and Tony Award winning James Corden for his performance on stage in the hit One Man, Two Guvnors? (brilliant BTW)

Or his Laurence Olivier nomination for Best Performance?

Or his Writers Guild of Great Britain award?

Or any of 22 awards he's won or been nominated for?

Or the fact that he took on one of the hardest presenting jobs on US TV, where so many have failed, and made a success of it?

Jesus, if that's untalented I feel like shit now.

Ha I was going to post that there are plenty of no talent oxygen thief "celebs" out there without picking on the clearly very talented Corden, but you beat me to it Bob (and have done it much better!)

My only gripe with him was a couple of years ago he was everywhere, his ubiquity made him irritating.

I find his voice a bit irritating (on a par with the guy who does the webuyanycar.com radio ads), but Bob's right. I've not seen a lot of the others he mentioned but Gavin and Stacey was a great sitcom as was The Wrong Mans. He is a great comic actor even if he's not to everyone's taste and certainly not the waste of oxygen that some celebs are.

I can't see how the awards were 'earned', personally.  It's fair to say that the ubiquity didn't help as far as I was concerned.  Another week, another RT cover with him on it pulling the same face...

Surely he earned them by delivering outstanding performances/scripts in the eyes of those giving out the award?

I can understand people not liking someone/finding them irritating, but that's different to them being talentless.

It'd be like me saying Niko Rosberg is talentless because I find him an irritating twat.

I like Cordon but can't stand him in the confused ads. I'm assuming he's earning massively from them as its a bit of a nail in the coffin of your career. Given he also does voice over work for pretty much anything and I can understand why people are sick of him.

Got to be one of the hardest working people in TV.

I just don't usually find him funny, which is pretty fundamental in my appraisal of a comedian.  I have found his brand of humour to be a bit too confrontational, in the sense that I think he makes jokes at people's expense and the last time I saw him do this on the telly I thought it was unwarranted and unfunny - in that (in my opinion) he took on the wrong target in the wrong way, and consequently made himself look a bit silly in the process.  I'm virtually impossible to offend or embarrass - it's not about the content or the subject matter, just the win/lose nature of the jokes (i.e. for him to win a laugh, he must make someone else lose face or status - if that makes sense).

I haven't seen a full episode of his chat show, so can't really comment on him in that capacity.  He's clearly versatile and hardworking.  Just not my cup of tea, and I have judged him accordingly!

This is sort of where I stand.  Some things you can measure (Rosberg's lap times, championship points etc), but funniosity is very much in the eye of the beholder.  Therefore probably better to state that I think he's talentless, rather than that he is talentless.

Being critically acclaimed doesn't mean you're great. It just means the critics like you.

I would happily enjoy a world without James Corden.

Bottom line is that by any reasonable measure the guy has talent but you don't like him. Fair enough!

+1

I wonder if some of his awards are simply because he's been the man in the eye as it were, at that time.

I'd rather watch any of the, for example, Greg Davies comedies (haven't seen his gameshow, I assume that's probably crap as most of these things are) because they all seem to match my sense of humour.

I think he's a nice bloke from what I've seen of him on TV, he's talented, confident without being up his own arse and has taken his US talk show like a duck to water. Highly watchable and I like him

There are times I find him irritating, but I like the ads just for seeing the car - the one I can't stand is the one with the builders and the guys in office suits/denim shorts - also clearly not working for me as I can't even remember who its for.

For name recognition, the meerkats surely have one of the best insurance comparison campaigns ever?

But getting back to James Corden - Gavin and Stacey was brilliant - one of the few TV comedies that had me laughing out loud.

Well said that man. Greg Davies is a great comic actor. Even though he wasn't technically one of the main characters in The Inbetweeners, he's certainly left more of a lasting impression.

Further to comments re James Corden, this appeared in 'Popbitch' last week.

>> A flying fuck <<
   Tales from the cockpit

Half an hour into a New York
 to London flight, passengers in
 business class noticed a woman
with a crying baby being brought
through the curtains by a flight
attendant. They looked on in mild
horror as they saw the attendant
direct her into an empty seat
 next to... James Corden.

 Expecting a huge celebrity hissy
fit to kick off, Corden's cabin-
mates were impressed to see that
he didn't say a word or make any
sort of complaint. He simply put
 on a pair of noise-cancelling
 headphones, pulled an eyemask
over his eyes, and turned away
 from her to sleep.

 Pretty decent of him, right?

 When the plane landed though,
 passengers were surprised to
see Corden remain seated as the
 woman with the baby struggled
 to open the overhead locker.

 And even more surprised when
she turned to Corden and said
"For fuck's sake can you at
least hold the baby while I
 get the bags down?"

 The woman was his wife.

 The baby was his baby.

Now, there's no 100% guarantee regarding the truth of this, but Popbitch have some pretty good libel lawyers, sooooo . . . . . .

You would hope so; a quick perusal of Wikipedia would reveal Cordon has two kids, the youngest of which is 2 and a half.

Popbitch......
