That's what https://www.captionbot.ai/ made of the image below. If driverless cars are going to be working out who is a person and what is a speedbump then on this basis we're all going to be killed*.

*I know it's early days and the tech will mature to a point it'll be safer than people.

I know that Autonomous vehicles are meant to be the big thing in our lifetimes but I just can't see how the manufacturers will ever get comfortable on how open they are to litigation when one thing in the process goes wrong and accidents happen.

Can you really cover all scenarios faced on the road and guarantee the car won't miss something.

Probably not, but we can't do that with humans either.

I'm not so sure the litigation is such a big problem. If you think about it car manufacturers have allsorts of potential litigation issues when manufacturing cars - what happens if the drive by wire steering fails, the anti-lock brakes fail, crash structures don't perform as predicted?
Insurance companies may gather sufficient data that shows they have significantly less claims from the autonomous vehicles they insure compared to those we drive and that could be another driver.

Soon we'll be selecting our cars on how well they can drive themselves!

I can see the day when if you want to buy a fast car you'll go to a test track and be driven around by a selection of autonomous Porsches, BMWs, Jaguars and you'll judge which one drives you the best.

Obviously when this happens you won't actually be allowed to drive it yourself on the roads. On no..
