This year's motoring dinner guest is Tom Kristensen. I know there are a lot of Le Mans fans around here so let me know if you're interested in a night in London on Thursday 23rd February for 95 (4 courses, champagne reception and wine)

I'm not sure there could be a more interesting motorsport evening than listening to Tom Kristensen. I would love to ask him about his recovery after his gigantic DTM crash at Hockenheim. One bloody tough bloke.

Tempting, as that is me birthday, but I literally know nothing about him other than he's won Le Mans once or twice...

Or maybe 9 times, 6 of them in a row.  It's a really nice offer and something I'd love to do, but unfortunately I'm at a leadership day in Leicester.....

Catch up in this. The event was on Thursday and I must say, having been to lots of motoring dinners over the years, this was the best I've been to.

Firstly the format was different, and for the better, with Ingolstadt providing some great AV interludes but what a guest. Entertaining, lucid, amusing, self deprecating: you name it, Kristiansen was a model of it. Best thing, I had a brief chat at the end of the dinner, bit of German thrown in and a laugh that all the humour, even though said in German, was Danish. Three hours later when he was leaving the bar for bed he came over to my group ( we were last in the bar as ever) to say farewell and remembered my name. Class act.

Tom Kristensen. One of the best drivers that not many people know about.

People often bemoan how drivers no longer crossover between series, but Kristensen did exactly that - and successfully. He was obviously fantastic in the LMP1 car, but he was equally fantastic in DTM. DTM was like Kristensen unleashed; using the front bumper to make some aggressive moves. To put this in context, the excellent Allan McNish tried combining sportscars and DTM for a few seasons and badly struggled near the back. That was how good Kristensen was.
