From the BBC:

A UK manufacturing company is looking to fill the gap left by the end of manufacturing of Land Rover's famous off-road car, the Defender.

Ineos, the UK chemicals company founded by pro-Brexit billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, conducted a six-month study into the car market.

It's spotted an opportunity for "a traditional off-roader ... that can be adapted for a whole range of uses," Tom Crotty, a director at Ineos, tells Today.

"That's where the real gap in the market is - for a real, tough, uncompromising 4x4 machine."

Looks like my father in law was years ahead of his time. Used to run Landmaster. Tubular chassis, massive V8.

Local farmer has one in his shed. His is the scruffy survivor mentioned on the Wikipedia article.

There were hints of this guy rebuilding the actual old Defender, but Land Rover have obviously denied this and have refused to sell the design.

Ineos should just go and buy it off Jeep like LR did.

Not a chance. He is an interesting local character and a hoarder. At the last count, I think he had at least 80 tractors. There is also one of the last Defender Hi-Caps sat in there virtually unused.

I have never seen inside, but I would love to at some point.
