Anyone a fan?

Being honest, having seen pics in mags, I wasn't keen. It looks bulbous and very MPV like, however at the Castle Combe meet, Dan got Tesla along to provide a static demo , so it was a good opportunity to have a closer look










There's nothing else quite like it when it comes to the interior. The screen would take some getting used to, and I'm still not 100% convinced, but it's dead easy to use and won't be long before other cars follow suit.

The space on the 2nd row is amazing. This was a 6 seater (you can choose 4,5,6 or 7), but I think 6 was about right as 3 seats across would've started to feel a bit tight. Seats were very good. Supportive and a soft feeling leather.

The doors. Gimmick ? yes. Fun? yes!. The first time you're sat in the seat and they close is amusing, but you can't deny how airy the cabin feels with the glass panels above, coupled with the glass roof over the driver and passenger part of the roof too.

Dan G sat on the 3rd row and said although tight , they provide more space than normal MPV's 3rd row. He's over 6ft , so I imagine a short arse like me , they would be fine . The boot was also a decent size with those seats folded, and there is also a smaller boot under the bonnet.

I don't normally like MPV's, but the thought of one of these (and I haven't even mentioned the performance!) would be a huge laugh and something very different indeed.

I'd not heard of this so a quick google shows a retail price of 85k!

I'm not sure in the looks. It doesn't really gel as  a design for me, but the interior does look pretty cool.

Also, not really sure who this is aimed at. Is it really a family SUV with gull wing doors -  don't they need more space to open? Price point would aim it at Range Rover type market and I just can't see that market being massively interested.

Not keen. The doors are a gimmick that make the car worse and less useable. You cannot put a roof rack on it and for the lifestyle market that's a mistake in my mind. That they cost a fortune (the doors) and are dogged by reliability issues only compound the problems.
I'd have an XC90 or Disco over this. Enjoy the superior interiors and versatility of both with the range anxiety or the price tags.

Maybe this is being ultra picky but the spindly connector (that presumably hides power cables) for the rear view mirror bugs me. Surely Tesla could have come up with a neatly integrated, totally self contained, solar rechargeable module for the mirror, with Bluetooth fir any sensors to connect with the car's systems.

Like I said, ultra picky!

It's the gimmicks that put me off the X. That shape, with normal doors and a normal front screen, same amount of space and a lower price tag would be way more interesting.

I saw one of these in Newton Aycliffe of all places and had a poke around inside. It doesn't look or feel like a 85k car and the rear gullwing doors are just a gimmick - possibly to try and inject a bit of interest into what is really a rather boring design.

Whilst I wouldn't want one, and 85k is beyond the pale, it looks better than it does in the magazines' pictures.

Tesla pricing is bonkers - the headline grabbing P100D that tears holes in the space time continuum is 130k before options (S and X models)

The standard P100D is just under 90k but is only 4.2 seconds to 60 without the ludicrous mode bits and pieces that the extra 40k buys.

Looking at the price list - a base P100D is equipped by the prison service and the options are hugely expensive - so I think most customers will end up walking themselves into the top banana.

I'll stick with being a luddite for now thanks.

Tesla's pricing has to be bonkers as they've never made a profit. They will keep on charging "early adopter" prices to limit demand until they have their infrastructure in place to up production and reduce lists.

Ok, so the doors can work in tight spaces. Roof rack still an issue. This article says it all to me -  the target market is wealthy, left leaning environmentalist tandem riders! Check out the bike rack!

Looked nice enough but I presume the owner has come from an X6 - left lane of the Tay Bridge off-ramp then straight across to lane 4 of the next bit of road, through rush-hour traffic and not bothering to indicate.
