Saw a friend yesterday who is in process of selling his 2005 E Class Estate.

We'd both had the "what do I replace it with discussion" and he's now ordered himself a BMW520d Lux Estate with the professional hi-fi/Nav.

Car lists at 41K all in, he got the price down to 32K which seems a cracking deal to me, albeit it it's a run out model obviously.

They were are 34K but he squeezed another 2K out by waiting until 31st October to finally commit, and he could see they were absolutely desperate for the sale by that day.

It is on PCP to get the finance contribution but as ever you can cancel after one month and he plans to pay it all off.

It's a Brexit benefit - Car paid for in full by rise in share portfolio in the last few months, my kids investments have also risen substantially.

Meanwhile I'm still struggling to work out FRV's replacement and had started pondering a new BMW too but I can't justify it given our evolving circumstances. This is tempting as a cheap short term solution though.

I'd forgotten these existed until I followed one the other day (and then wondered how I had forgotten it as they are bloody huge);

Isn't that 4k worth of risky short-term solution?
You could drive it for a week and the engine could go bang. At least you know the history of your FRV.
Is it urgent that you change?

According to GBB's man-maths, it is essential!

No, not urgent but I sense bills around the corner, likely front shocks.

Won't be buying anything unless it checks out solidly though, can afford to take my time.
