Saw the TV advert last night. W2.0 asked what it was about. I told her "a video game".

"Fuck me, what a sad bunch" she replied.

Horses for courses. I am hooked on Real Racer 3 on my iPhone and she grinds her teeth about it.

I'm not a massive gamer but I do have an XBox 360 which was a gift from Mrs. Sacamano. Every now and then it makes a change to dip into Battlefield 3, the latest Tomb Raider or one of the driving games.
Looking back I remember the fun we had with the Spectrum, playing Atic Attack, Sonic the Headgehog and Sensible Soccer on the Sega Megadrive, or the original Tomb Raider on the Playstation 1 which we often used to sit round trying to figure out the puzzles.
I've not got GTA5 but I did get the last one and spent all my time being chased by the cops before being shot dead at the end of a foot chase.

I gave up on GTA after San Andreas. GTA IV was terrible - too much realism, the crappy targetting system, rubbish car handling and the constant phonecalls ruined it. GTA is about stealing cars and killing people, nothing more.

I don't own a console capable of playing it anyway, not until PS4 comes out and my mate gives me his PS3. By which time, GTA V may have come down in price and I can give it a try.

98 on metacritic is terrible?  If GTA where just about stealing cars and killing people it would get boring pretty fast.  As for the crappy car handling, its done that way to reflect the fact most american cars handle badly, especially the big SUVs.

Entitled to your opinion, if that's what you think then I'm not going to try and change your mind.

The PS3 has been in storage for months.  I should put it on eBay really as I don't miss it in any way whatsoever.

Magazine reviews mean 2/10 of fuck all in the real world though. Basically, a magazine review is no more worthy than anyone else's opinion.

San Andreas was the beginning of the downfall of GTA - too busy, far too many empty spaces, too many side missions, having to feed and exercise yourself - it all took away from the core idea of the game. GTA IV simply took that and multiplied it. It wasn't as easy to get into as III or Vice City or either of the PSP versions.

I have heard from a mate of mine whose opinion roughly tallies with mine that GTA V is a lot better than IV in that the vehicle handling is better and so is the gameplay.

Perhaps, to an a small extent, but when a game, film or whatever is universally praised by gamers, journalists, reviewers alike, it all means fuck all because a cynic like you doesn't like it?

According to wiki, which can be taken with a pinch of salt, the game has sold 25 million copies.  I guess thats 25 million people who are all idiots, myself included.

27.5 million copies according to wiki for SA.  They took the exercise out after SA for reference.  GTA IV's liberty city was a thinly veiled New York, of course it was going to be busy!  Up until the release of V Liberty City was the most brilliantly realized fictional world ever created, save maybe for Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption was great but I loved the zombie edition. When you shot the zombies in the head it just exploded like a ripe pumpkin. Something very satisfying about that.

At what point did I call you an idiot, DC? Calm the fuck down, people are going to disagree with you on here and in real life. I only said I don't like the game, no need to go quoting figures and shit.

You misunderstand some of my points. By busy I mean too much to do and think about, not literally busy with people and cars. Games are about fun, not thinking until your brain shits.

I stand by the reviews quote. I don't trust car magazines or TV critics' opinions any more than I do my 5 year old daughter on any subject. All you are getting is one person's opinion, when you boil it down.

GTA 5 is a great game. It mixes realism and fun very well. GTA 4 was fairly boring and was a definite step backwards compared to the depth of San Andreas.

The countryside and more rural parts in particular look breathtaking. GTA 4’s side missions were poor imo and never integrated well into the game, GTA 5’s side missions are great fun and don’t feel like second best.

The celebrity-obsessed, crazy English couple are highly amusing – only on GTA.

GTA 3 was what ultimately put the series on the map, with an open world and accessibility like never before. It is only invertible that the series had to develop with more features and tasks to complete, or GTA would have fizzled out very quickly.

Saying that, there are a few niggles. So far, there are no gun cheats. That was always a favourite for me. Going to the gun shop every time I want more weapons is tedious. I always liked the tank cheat, too – it made completing most missions very easy – the cops or the enemy never stood a chance against the tank.

Also, the cheats so far have strangely reverted back to manually entering the codes on the pad. GTA 4 rightly allowed the cheats to be activated on the phone (who wants to enter codes every time they want a cheat activated?) – GTA 5 is a step backwards in this regard.

I mainly use my PS3 for driving games (Gran Turismo 5) but I always make an exception for GTA.

Vice City is still the king of GTA games.
