Took the boys and my Dad last night.

Wasn't sure what to expect but highly enjoyable. Every who I'd mentioned the film to before had really raved about it and I can see why.

It was odd putting together a series of events I was aware of individually but hadn't pieced together the whole story before, especially the Prost vs Senna battle.

That's a fair number of forummers who have been to see this now!

The Prost/Senna feud was hard to miss even at the time, but the film brought home just how much they really detested each other.

Must admit, I never liked Prost, even though I recognised him as an excellent driver, much in the same way as I never really took to Schumacher (M) either.

That's the thing - when you put all the events together you can see how bad it got, I'd not realised anything much at the time.

Now I'm waiting for "Schumacher" perhaps I'll learn more about his relationship with Damon Hill.

I know it probably didn't fit the story of the film but I can't believe there was no donington '93 footage, that's when I completely switched to being a Senna fan as an 11 year old, previously he had been Mansell's nemesis. I think 92 was my first season of being really into it.
Williams were my favourite team and I was very excited of Senna driving for them, along with Hill, who became another favourite. I can still remember sitting watching that race at Imola and Murray Walker trying not to cry whilst commentating. It was my first encounter of mortality, He was probably the first person i 'knew' who died and was formative event of my preteen years.

My motorcycle helmet is yellow in deference to Ayrton Senna.

The director mentioned that he left it out because "everyone had seen it already".

Watched (and blubbed) last night, a great film.  Some very interesting bits that I'd only read about before, such as his rather pointed response to Jackie Stewart's interviewing him.

It seemed to me that the omission of a few bits of racing was to the film's detriment.  Immediately after we fished out F1 1993 to watch The Lap, and I'd love to have seen some of him holding off Mansell at Monaco the year before.  The blu ray features an extended cut, with around 45 minutes of additional footage, so will watch that at some point soon and see if it addresses the lack of race footage.

I'm guessing that approval from the Senna family keeps it from being entirely objective, but as he was my only real sporting hero, it would be churlish to grumble.

I'd also recommend A Star named Ayrton Senna - there really is a star named after him - which is only available on VHS and probably difficult to get hold of, and contains possibly the worst music ever made.  But it deals more with his life outside F1, and is equally moving.

Actually, my Googling suggests a DVD release is in the offing.

The interview with Stewart humbled me instantly at the thought of all I'll ever be is a ham-fisted wheel hack.
