Just booked a crossing, but the "booking experience" is completely unlike any other company I've ever dealt with. Maybe it's our net nanny at work, but their website is effectively unusable - it either times out or crashes, usually after you've laboriously entered all the information. Their booking phone line, on the other hand, could not be better - minimal wait for connection, charming and helpful woman - job done. An object lesson for all other companies.

I had all that when trying to book a train ticket last year. I gave up and bought at the station.
I've come to the conclusion that many web site are designed by people who never use them. Many seem to be so badly designed that the only other explanation is that they want to keep you hanging around staring at the screen so that they can use your time on the site as a barganing tool to increase their advertising revenue. _________________ woof woof's defence lawyer claimed that "Booze played no part in his typo's."

That's very true - what is surprising though is to encounter a helpful phone service.

I think people who design websites do so in the optimal environments with the best machines - which falls apart somewhat with the average user machine
