A gathering of classic Lancias at Snape Maltings. A lovely silver Aprilia and more Aurelia GT coupes than you could shake a stick at. Gorgeous cars.

Got followed by a Porsche 356 cabrio. Dunno if it was a real one though.

Also spotted a partially restored Lotus Elan (1960s version) in a house garage in the local village.

I reckon this qualifies as a classic - just spotted out of my window an utterly immaculate dark metallic blue G-reg E30 Alpina B2.7 convertible driving along Holborn Viaduct. Beige leather interior and occupied by a prosperous looking older couple. Lovely car.

Not sure of the model, but I was followed this morning by a beautiful 911, probably dating from the early to mid 80's. It was white and wasn't hanging about too much.

As I was sitting enjoying an Italian pizza outside a restaurant in Bolzano this evening, I heard a very characteristic sound - the approach of a 2 cylinder Citroen.

Seconds later, an absolutely immaculate red Dyane came bu on the cobbled street. Luckily, the owner parked up just round the corner, so when I had finished eating I was able to take these shots.

When did anyone last see a Dyane quite this showroom-fresh looking?

Most unusual car of the day yesterday was an Opel Kadett Aero........... a targa-roofed Kadett "C", from the late 1970s, in the style of BMW Cabriolets of a similar vintage.  Never seen one in the metal, before. Sadly, I was driving, so no phot of it.... I am sure someone will turn up one if they go looking on Google images...

Yesterday I saw a yellow Mk1 Capri that was done up like a Camaro. It had two wide black stripes up the bonnet. A few minutes later, I saw another Mk1 Capri, this time, a green one. Made me wonder if there was an enthusiasts meet or something.

Spotted leaving a service station somewhere near Magdeburg in the former East Germany - an immaculate black Mk2 Jaguar 3.4 on wires and old black-and-silver Dutch numberplates, with a very smart elderly couple driving it.

In Inveraray today, a lovely blue/white roof Citroen DS19. Has there been an any more striking-looking car made since the car was invented?

After doing a bit of research to identify the model and for those who know Bristol (most by the sounds of things) if you go over St. Phillips Causeway heading south on the A4 and look over the side about halfway along there is a 1960's Mercedes 111 coupe in brown parked under a rickety shelter looking very much like one of those 'found in a barn' cars.
It's a bit like this one:

If I can find a safe moment to stop and I can get the camera to zoom in far enough I'll get a photo one day soon.

A pea-green Rover P6 on Gibson St in Glasgow's west end.

I also saw a Morris Oxford in Coatbridge yesterday.

Forgot to mention the gorgeous classic Bentley with a wooden-framed shooting break rear that I spotted making stately progress down the A1(M) south of Ripon last Sunday.

Utterly gorgeous and very unusual. Couldn't tell you which model of Bentley though.

You can guess which country I was in, to see these:

White Renault 4CV
Black Renault Dauphine
Gold, and less than mint, but it's rare, so it counts, Peugeot 304 Break
even a silver Talbot Samba, which I realised must now be not far off 30 years old!

Also a couple of Avantimes, one the same colour as Kraft's (German plated) and a grey one that had a "gasoil" engine, judging by the sound of it

Oh, and also, a Fiat Dino Coupe.

I was somewhat surprised to see, on Friday evening, this small group of cars parked up outside the back of a rather scruffy building just along the main road by the Hardbruecke in Zurich.

They seemed to constitute some form of display, as some of them had a card in the window with some details about the individual cars.

Peugeot 404 Berline:

Peugeot 504 Coupe

An early Citroen Ami

This Citroen SM - an Italian spec car, as evidenced by the side repeater flashers, was actually for sale. CHF 34,995, and it could be yours (that's about £17,500).

Spotted on Monday in a torrential downpour a red Jag E Type 4.2 fixed head.

Today I saw a green J reg (1970) Beetle powered beach buggy in pretty decent condition.
It actually had a canvas roof up despite the weather finally being great.

On my way home from work I followed a lovely black Jensen GT home for about 3 miles.  I had no idea what it was untill I got in behind it and I must say I really liked it. Besides the Z3M Coupe it must be the only shooting brake car I like.

There really should be a separate thread called 'Shit old cars you saw today' for these two, but since there isn't one, I shall mention here that I saw a Morris Marina coupe on Friday evening, finished in a fetching shade of mustard yellow. I then spotted an orange Allegro yesterday, near Coventry.

On a more positive note, I spotted a pristine E28 5-series, badged 528is, on a densely foggy M40 this morning.

What time were you on the densely foggy M40, Piers? I was on it from about 8:30 to 9:20.

In the worst bit I was passed by an L200 doing about 80 with no lights on whatsoever. Prat.

I was on it from about 7:30 to 8:00, Dave. Typically, I also saw one or two gormless morons with no lights on at all.

You've just reminded me of an automotive villain, actually...

About 8pm last night in the rain on Chelsea Embankment - a dark metallic blue (like RR's peacock blue) Aston Martin DB4......was absolutely flawlessly immaculate and looked stunning glistening with raindrops under the streetlights and the white glow of my xenons. Seemed extremely dainty and delicately small amongst all the modern cars around it - was dwarfed by the N-reg Escort next to it. Elderly couple inside looked almost as elegant as the car.

Gorgeous, gorgeous machine.

An old Bentley or Rolls (1930s vintage) following the 599 GTB I mentioned in On the Road. Had it been in isolation, I'd have paid more attention to what it was!

As per Dan I lusted after these as a kid - but by the time I could drive and insure one (1986) there seemed to be none left (they'd have been 10-16yrs old) - shows how far rustproofing has come.

I wanted a 1.6 GT 2 door early model with the 4 gauges set into the centre console. The later models are even rarer as they were discontinued not long after the facelift.

it's ironic it was in Bristol - I always associated Cortina Mk3's with Bristol thanks to Shoestring (for those who might remember that). Could you see Trevor Eve tooling about in a Mk3 on "Waking the Dead"

An immaculate-looking Burgundy Rover P6. The reg. no was 'BXC something-or-other' on a G registration, which stood out as I seem to recall '-XC' plates on quite a few contemporary press photos of Rover P5s / P6s .
