Outside of home-grown dictators and government bigwigs, one would assume. Your £70k buys you:
Love the bonnet ornamentation. Almost as amusing as the residual value after three years. Actually, make that three weeks.
That said, hideous though it is there's room for a little credit where due: it's less vulgar than the Maybach. _________________ "Accident Blackspot"? These aren't accidents. They're throwing themselves into the road gladly. Throwing themselves into the road to escape all this hideousness.'

| Apart from the bonnet ornament, I don't think that's especially vulgar. The curve over the rear wheelarch is quite nice, even. |

From the side it does look as if they designed it, realised it was not big enough and so welded in a bit more metal.
Which means it will be really easy to turn into a stretched limo. So I expect in due course I'll see one with some chavette hanging her rack out of it. |

I'm a Hyundai fan and I think that their small car range is very nice, even their 4x4's don't look that offensive and the coupe was always nice.
I suppose they think that they need a flagship model. _________________ woof woof's defence lawyer claimed that "Booze played no part in his typo's."

Debadged, dechromed and with some dusky wheels, that would be an ace limo.
I'd happily be chauffered around in that. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |

And insn't that the key thing about so much car design now. Deblinged and done "less is more" that could be good. But all the add-ons and shyte just ruin it. |

Thanks, I had missed that obvious error on my part. Just not keen on the other persons part, definitely not on the agenda.
The car is not bad in a non generic 'could be anything' kind of way. Too much chrome and change the headlights and it could be quite understated in the metal. _________________ Politicians. Would a career specialist by any other name carry such a putrid stench? |

I see a silver Phaeton periodically, and I really like it. And funnily enough I was just reading my post on the A8 under test driven. _________________ "Accident Blackspot"? These aren't accidents. I wouldn't! Never understood why either of those cars are so highly rated. |

Is the Phaeton highly-rated? Isn't it generally thought of as too heavy and too lowly-of-badge? I like to see them drive by, but suspect it's not a wise place to place one's hard-earned, even 2nd hand.
And I must admit I perceive the press view of the A8 as being somewhat muted, though like them regardless.
I have the distinct feeling that a Quattroporte would be much more fun, though. _________________ "Accident Blackspot"? These aren't accidents. They're throwing themselves into the road gladly. Throwing themselves into the road to escape all this hideousness.'

I'm with GZ on a big saloon being comfy, not sporty. So, an A8 with softly-softly suspension and a lovely V8 would be fine. I expect that High-and-dri will be distincly unsporty and all the better for it.
The Phaeton appeals because of it's low badge appeal. To dismiss it because of the VW badge is pure snobbery. That and the fact that they look the nads in black and are rarer than hen's teeth. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |

| But that's the problem with the A8, by all accounts, its ride is its weakest point, and yet it's not particularly sporting either. I can see the no-badge appeal of the Phaeton, but I couldn't live with its interior: more shiny "wood" than an MFI kitchen. |

I thought that the one I had for a week was fine on 20" wheels. But then I've never been in an S-class, so have no 'benchmark.' _________________ "Accident Blackspot"? These aren't accidents. I'd have one with 18's, no bigger. I have the AX for getting my spine broken in.
First thing I'd do if my numbers came up, would be to walk into the Audi showroom with a wodge of notes and buy a black 4.2 with no chrome, 18's, carbon trim and tan leather.
Even if it doesn't match an S Class, I guarantee it'd be the comfiest car I'd ever owned. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |

| The early "machined from a single casting" A8's in dark colours looked damn cool, even if the ride was pants. But they became too chav when they started mucking about outside and inside and the huge snozzle was the final straw, |

I've found the A8 ride to be pretty poor around town - and even worse as a passenger. A comparable 7 Series is much better.
The Hyundai isn't gorgeous - but I've seen much worse. And, I won't be in the queue, but it should also be remembered that the £70k will include everything which will make it very good value in the showroom. They are even managing to make/source decent engines & drivetrains these days.
Anybody who gets the chance to poke around/drive a Genesis will be very surprised. |
