I forgot Family Guy. Perhaps the most consistently-funny show on TV at the moment.

I agonised a lot over including Python but I haven't seen the series since I was a kid when they repeated them on the telly in the 80s and a lot of comedies I liked then just don't make me laugh now - The Young Ones being the main example.

I'd like to see the New Statesman and Drop the Dead Donkey again - I loved those when I was younger - we used to watch them as a family (including my grand parents), same with the Young Ones.

I can't recall any great modern comedy -the oldies are the best, no time for USA ones either apart from Seinfeld
Partridge and The Office show genius - but in very small doses- and light years away from the true greats.
Twelfth has my closest matches apart from MASH

There was a comedy show years ago and one of the characters used to say...

"Served all through first world war Carter."

What was the show called?
