Having spent the last few days trawling Europe from the comfort of my sofa, I've found six K1s for sale.

One is on Pistonheads, looks nice, and having spoken to the mature owner I've no reason to doubt it's a decent bike, but it's a repaired Cat 'D' write-off with very little history, so we walk away.

There are two on eBay.it - one with zero miles, from a private collection, but starting price is 10k euro. Another with only 31k km, but it's overpriced at 6.2k euro.

On eBay.de there are also two - an all-black one with 92k kms. Looks nice, but a bit leggy. Another, in black and yellow, looks really good in the pics, but has 90k kms and the seller is asking 12k euro! Ha! I emailed him to say '12k, not 1200? Are you sure?' No response as yet...

Saturday I spent some time Googling 'classic motorcycles for sale'; 'classic bikes for sale'; 'classic BMW bikes' etc and after a while came up with this on an hilariously obscure website...

It's an 89, two-owner bike with 19k on the clock and every receipt, MOT and service record from new. Current owner is an elderly gentleman with whom I had a long chat on Saturday. He emailed me some pictures, I responded with half-a-dozen questions, which he answered almost over-comprehensively. The level of detail in to which he went was pretty staggering. He's a BMW and BSA enthusiast - indeed, his email address is bantam175@***.com.

I've booked a flight to Dundee next Monday and he's picking me up at the airport. Ooh, I'm excited.

Just this second off the phone to BMW Park Lane about ordering the decals, actually.

How about a copy of everyone's favourite magazine with a road test in it?

Not cheap, though!

Yeah, I've seen that. The bike vendor has a file of articles, road tests and features about the bike, one of which may be the Z1 v K1 piece.

So are you going to ride it back to London? That's going to be a journey worth writing up ...

It certainly will be!  I hope the weather clears up a bit, it could be rather too exciting if it doesn't!

Sorry to hear that. Pity it didn't work out. Bit of a holiday fling in the end?

Thanks Rodge. The bike is, I'm convinced, one of the best of its model available, but I just don't like riding it. Pity indeed, but I have plans...

The archetype for how all ebay adverts should be written. A credit to you Pocket Calculator.

It looks lovely with the full K1 decals.

Shame it didn't work out, it's better to have loved and lost rather than never loved at all, or something.......................

Thanks, Matt. The 'tyres... find...' line grates, but too late to change.

I must be gutting to find out that something that you really wanted to own and use, such as the K1, in fact isnt all that great and a bit of a dissapointment.

It is a bit, but thankfully it's not going to be too painful, pocket-wise. And as I said elsewhere, I have a plan... Hurr, hurr, hurr.
