It's a pity in some ways that Chris Evans has quit.  The show needed a bit of time to find its feet again.  I thought the first two episodes were pretty poor but the last couple were pretty good.  People generally don't like change, and Chris Evans was trying too hard at the beginning, but I think the new presenters relaxed into being themselves after a while.

That said, I agree that the show doesn't need Sabine, at least from a driving or presenting point of view.  Nor does it need EJ.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the series, thinking of the main show and Extra gear as one. I'd also keep all the presenters, as they all bring something different but agree more MLB and Rory and less Evans (fixed) and very very little EJ.

Liking the new Stang more and more.

I've enjoyed this series, Evans got better but TBH the way the press went for him, I don't think he stood a chance, it was pretty much a witch hunt and I don't really know why.

He's always been a bit marmite, and has also done very well (£££) despite the press going for him so it was always going to be hard. He's been ok, but has done the right thing I think. And the rumours abut him and MLB are true I believe.

Being a good presenter is a real skill with Ant/Dec/Dermot perhaps being the kings of "stand me on a stage, show me an autocue and let me deliver it naturally", given how wooden Gary Lineker was at the start of his career (and Hammond/May) then I think Rory has real potential.

Rory does seem to have developed a case of 'The Clarkson's' though - spend ten minutes talking about the negatives and just when you think all is lost add in a last little point where the car is perfect and vice-versa; it's a shit presentational style.

Evans is shouty but I maintain that very quickly there are lots of positives - the original TG cast took much longer (and in my view still had dreadful chemistry).

One negative this week for some of the language, it's a real treat for my son to sit and watch it but there were too many choice words not edited.

I can totally see that Evans could have a "diva" streak about him.

I saw enough promising signs in the last series to continue. Not sure about James Martin though, but I'm open-minded.

Yes, where by the magic of television we all believe James lives on a suburban housing estate as opposed a luxury pad outside of York...

Can we now rename this thread? The Grand Tour was well worth the wait and shows that the old format needed a proper revamp, not Chris Evans trying to redo the old stuff.

So, New Old TG re-starts on Sunday, I believe.  Watching?  It's a no from me*, but I'm curious about how it'll fare.

*Can't abide LeBlank - any more than I could Evans.

Back on topic, I'm giving it a go as I agree with Bob: these look to be the right presenters. That said I've still to watch the last episode of Three Men in a Tent so my keeping up with TV skills are pretty lax.

Loved it!

The FXXK piece was awesome, what a machine and I don't even like the LaFerrari

SIARPC- good move from taking it from a 5 minute plug of their stars latest movie/dvd/tour to a full show conversation piece

Loved the high mileage challenge and genuinely thought the end quite moving. MLB has improved from being a piece of wood to almost entertaining. Harris has clearly had some acting lessons and Rory is a lot less street. Serious thumbs up from me.

I agree with all of that, best episode for a long time.  I really enjoyed it all the way through (as did Lindsay), looking forward to next week.

Without Chris Evans the other three had a great chemistry. Bringing Rory into the fold on the main show worked well. It was refreshing that although Matt LeBlanc has taken the lead presenter roll previously occupied by Clarkson and Evans, he never once acted like he was the better of the other two and all three just got on like mates.

The high mileage cars segment was well done although that V70 must have had the airbags disabled to take that shunt without deployment.

I think this revamped version of the revamped Top Gear is looking like a real competitor to Grand Tour.

Harris has clearly had some acting lessons

I know, what a shame. Or at least he could have chosen a better character than 'little angry man'.

Good show though and some tasty looking stuff on the trailer sequence.

and yes, there is an obvious response to that

I didn't see much evidence of chemistry.

MLB was dryly amusing as usual but Harris was a bit of a tit (and MLB knows it). He's obviously desperate to prove he is " the hand " on the show and his comments to James McAvoy " that's not you saving the slide, it's the car " seemed completely unnecessary and git worthy in that particular context.

If it is scripted, then Matt gets the only funny lines.
