Well I'm biased because I just love the Esprit. It still takes my breath away when I see one.

Remember this one we saw at Gaydon, Dan? Phwoaaaar!

I'm surprised that no one has put up the original Ford Focus Ghia concept from 1992:

Slightly different to the model that was released 6 years later!

Had forgotten about the Skoda Tudor (geddit?).

Nicely styled car that, considering it was a chopped Superb.

A name Ford used in the 1930s for their two-door saloon. (Obviously works better if Tudor is pronounced as the Yanks would say it.)

I didn't know that pronunciation from America. I had the Croatian name Tudor in mind, which might be used in the Czech Republic too. There was a Croatian footballer a few years back called Tudor.

F*ck me, that's gorgeous...

My best mate's Czech, and she's got the same idea of Skoda as Brits do about Rover.

Bertone Slalom

De Tomaso Bigua - Which became the Qvale Mangusta

Ford Lynx - Which of course, ended up as the Puma

Italdesign Formula 4

All of these had something in common. Can you guess what?

Sadly the last I saw of that concept was a big picture of it that was held by Sainsburys of Staines which is built on the old Lagonda factory site. The picture was in the corridor leading to the bogs. What an undignified end. Last time I was at that store it had gone.

One Ford concept that always made me think phoaw was the GT90:

Alfa Romeo Proteo (which I suppose spawned the GTV)

Alfa Romeo Diva. I like this a lot.

Been a long time since anyone posted in here...

Anyway, I remember these from my childhood, most notably the Xanae (which became the Picasso) and Activa (second from right).

Both Activas still look good! It's good that Citroen has rediscovered some flair and originality but it has lost the sleekness (C6 the exception). In fact a C6 coupe would be brilliant (although they would sell about 3)

Another concept I really liked was produced in the early nineties was an Allroad type vehicle based on an Escort Estate. I only remember seeing picture of it in an obscure industry magazine a few years ago.

Isnt this the new AC

How old is the concept?

Super random thread resurrection:

1999 Rover 55 concept:

Why you may ask? Well, I stumbled across it randomly on tumblr this morning and it jogged a memory. Last week me & our kid bagged ourselves a freebie tour & ride at the Landrover plant in Halewood (only the three hour one, not the full day).
If you get the chance to do one of these things, it's well worth it. The numbers and processes are fascinating and eye opening, from the fact that when the bodies come out of paint, the doors are all 5mm out of line, yet by the time they are re-fitted at the end of the line they fit exactly, to the bumpers being made, painted & delivered in 90 minutes and are matched to a pre-ordered car.
Anyhow, the guide showing us around told us that JLR had recently acquired the Rover name for a not-inconsiderable sum as it was felt that the 2WD Evoque and Freelander where devaluing the go-anywhere reputation of the LandRover/Freelander brand and that we could expect to see a revival in the not too distant future as a sort of budget-ish sub brand, especially in those areas were the 2WD versions sold most due to tax reasons (Italy & Spain apparently). When I asked him about a possible revival of the saloons since Jaguar had it's own (expensive) platforms now he replied 'Well, it seems to work for VW/Audi.'

So, what do we think? Possible? Good idea? Bad idea?

As to the Rover name, better IMHO if it stayed dead

I think a Rover integrated with Land Rover/Range Rover might work. Gives them a chance to expand the brand and push downmarket (a la Merc/BMW/Audi) without diluting the LR/RR brand name too much.

I think the Rover brand is devalued by all the past history. So as a low end brand for 2wd Land Rover spin offs it might work. But I can't see that there is any benefit is using it on saloons based around Jags. Now had they managed to get hold of the MG brand, that might have been different. I think decently designed, small,  MG sporty saloons and sports cars would sell really well. But not the ones that the current MG are knocking out!

The Rover name has too old and fuddy duddy an image, IMHO, to be relaunched successfully.
