Any bets for Hull making it to Europe?

I'm having a bad few weeks. I sold two players, Torres and Skrtyl this week and bought in Adebayor and Arbeloa, losing 4 points in the process. I realised today that if I'd just ignored my injuries and done nothing, O' Brien and Hamann would have come in, giving me 9 points plus the 4 I wouldn't have dropped. My replacements got me a total of 2 points!

Demonstrating great managerial skills, me

You sold Torres and bought Adebayor?

The Newcastle job is all yours. Or possibly even the Spurs one ...

I had Torres on the bench even though he was injured...

Despite having a middling squad I still managed to get 55 points this week. My biggest regret was selling the Hull goalscorer (Turner) for Distin. That's a massive chunk of points lost.

Played my wildcard the other week. Sold Arbeloa, who predictably, scored the following game. His first in 70 games!
Had a better week this week, all my players scored. I still think Chelsea are going to win it. Arsenal are trying their hardest to lose it, Villa will fall away and Man Utd have finally hit their stride.
Prdeictions for May: Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Villa. Hull will finish in the top 10. West Brom, Stoke and (not sure of the third team) will be relegated.

The wildcard made a huge difference to my scoring too.

My predictions for May. Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpoor, Arsenal. I can't see anyone breaking into the big four even if the Arse are going through a sticky patch. They have so much quality they can be down for long.

Relegation looms for West Brom, Stoke and I fear for Bolton.

Arsenal will be the cause of my downfall.

I sold all my Gunners last week in anticipation of a slaying from Man U, and they put in a performance of a lifetime.

Then I restored the Gunners back to my team and look what happened...

I stand by my predictions for the drop. WBA, Bolton and Wigan, despite their free scoring Egyptian.

Stoke have enough to stay up, just.

Here's an obscure question that's puzzled me for years - why does the Premier League always end up out of sync, with two teams (not always the same ones) having played one game less than all the others? At the moment, it's Man U and Fulham, who've only played 15 games while everyone else has played 16; and it's not just this week, this has been the case for a while now. Why don't they have the system where over a period of time (normally a weekend, but could also be mid week if there's been an international), where all the teams play one game?

Man U have played one game less because of Man U's involvement in the European Super Cup back in August, and thus their game with Fulham was postponed to a yet unknown date.

They will fall further behind as they leave for Japan to play in the Club World Cup.

Hence my suggestion - you have a period where all teams play one game - it's called a "spieltag" here in Germany, though it's not a single day, of course. Any other competitions have to fit around that, as with the FA Cup third round weekend in January.

Thanks for the info, anyway ...

I'm thinking of renaming my team Liverpool. Started off well and have done alright since then, but alright enough to actually stay in front, just slowly lapse into the realms of Arsenal and Villa. 4th place now and steadily falling further.

I've let you have a head start, now it's time to catch up!

The annoying thing for me is that a chap I work with is in another league that I'm in, and he's ignored his team all year.

It overtook mine last weekend and is a point ahead

If we were playing Fantasy GP rules, that would be a good prediction, only 2 teams swapped around in the top 5 (after tonights games, I presume Utd will pick up at least a point against Pompey), and the bottom 3 of West Brom, Newcastle and Middlesborough.

Anyway, It's not over yet, Arshavin scored 21 points for me last night, I need Lampard to have a few good games now and Ronaldo to get injured

I hope Lampard gets sent off and Ronaldo gets a hatrick. Fingers crossed.

Wigan and Fulham have been the real surprise packages this season. And after a shaky start, Stoke have achieved the heady heights of mid-table mediocrity. Hull predictably couldn't keep up their early form and are now having an anxious time on the fringe of the relegation zone, though what will save them is that there are worse teams in a worse position. Can't see West Brom surviving, and on current form, Middlesborough and Newcastle look set to join them.

You were right. I kind of always thought Newcastle would pull through but they proved me wrong.

Still, it did get close but I am the current The Motor Forum Fantasy Football Champion. Hurray.

A late surge brings me up to seventh. Which is pretty good after languishing near the bottom all season.

I worry for Arsenal altogether (especially now Nasri is crocked): I'm beginning to suspect that we are moving from a Big Four to a Big Three.

I think there will still be a Big 4, but Arsenal is most at risk at being displaced.

Man City could be one to watch.

They were well off the pace of the top three last season, and I can't see that improving, unless they spend the Adebayor money wisely. They're also getting to that dangerous stage where - having won no trophies for a well - other clubs are starting to target their best players. That said, I think Adebayor isn't a great loss, but they need to get someone better to lead the attack.

It's going to be an interesting season anyway. If Gerard does time, then Liverpool are screwed right off, especially if/when Alonso leaves.

Chelsea are an unknown quantity: if Hiddink had stayed, I reckon they'd have won the PL easily and possibly the CL as well, but it remains to be seen whether Ancelotti does what Capello has done for England, or whether he's another Scolari.

Man U are the dark horses. They haven't done much buying, but I reckon capturing Owen is a tidy bit of business that will pay off big time. At least now that Twat has left, I will be able to enjoy watching them.

People keep on about the signings United have made and the players they haven't signed but none of the top four have made major changes so far. Arsenal still haven't sorted their defense, Chelsea's ageing team are another year older and no longer can draw players in on the promise of the best wages in the PL and United have sold the best player in the world. I think (and fear) that if Liverpool tell Real Madrid to do one and keep Alonso they will be the team to stop.

I think so, yes.

But will they? He seems to want to leave, and Benitez (for no reason I can imagine) doesn't seem nearly bothered enough about losing him. So if he goes and Gerard is "absent" for a few months, that's the whole spine of their team gone, and so my prediction would be third place at best.

He doesn't seem to be throwing a strop about wanting to leave, publicly at least, so it suggests he wouldn't be a sulky waster if they refused to sell. I have no idea why Rafa seems indifferent to losing him, to my eyes Liverpool only need to add a bit of depth to thier squad, another goalscorer mainly, to be very very close to winning the league. Once they beat United at OT last season they seemed to believe they were title challengers rather than hoping they were.

If Hargreaves can get fit and Brown stays fit then United will have two players that didn't feature last year to add to the formidable depth in defense and midfield - I'm also hoping for big things from Gibson - but overall I think they will miss the spark of brilliance that Ronaldo gave. It is that that is the differnce between first or second in the league, a CL semifinal place or winners. Everyone seems to think Rooney will step up to provide it but I'm not so sure.

The problem with Hargreaves (and it'll be the same for Arsenal with Rosicky) is that he'll be very rusty coming back after such a long time out, so it might be Christmas before he's fully firing.

Arsenal pulled 21-games unbeaten after a poor start where Fabregas was messing up the balance of the midfield.

I'll not be too surprised if the same happens this season if Fabregas doesn't have a decent midfielder alongside him.
