I am tempted to record the AX (assuming it doesn't kill the mic in the camera!)

I'll get around to doing mine too, but there have been a few BMW 2.5's here already. I am thinking of trying to fit my old K&N filter so that might make it sound fruitier.

Meanwhile, here's one I took at goodwood a few years ago:

Here we have the in-car recording of Blue Beastie. It's amazing how well a digicam fits underneath the passenger headrest! The video is a bit lengthy, basically it's most of my thrash home from my Dad's house. Sound quality isn't too bad, either.

EDIT: It didn't record for as long as I thought. It missed the best, most noisy part out! At least the induction noise is audible.

Drive-by next!

Well, here's the best car you'll hear in this thread

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOOYcNl6SdQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nwo7s1S5fGo

It so needs an exhaust and I think I'll do some overtime to get Lionel a decent system. I quite fancy twin exits, even though I wasn't always a fan. Think they'd look different on a 306, as most have single ovals or circle exits.

Mike - That video clip is genius!  It does sound like the car is stuttering when you rev it though, what's that all about?

The Legacy sounds fantastic, not what I expected at all.  The prodrive exhaust was a great buy as it is not too loud, but just about right.

I think the RS4 needs to be done again out in the open, it sounds too smooth and not exciting enough in that clip.  I've heard enough on the road and on youtube to know it can sound a lot better.

Matt - I thought yours was the petrol engined 306?  It sounds like a bloody diesel when it starts up!

Who was driving the Murcielago?  They forced that Passat off onto the grass

Blarno - The Clio sounds better than I thought it would, but whats with the soft toy on the dash and something swinging from the mirror.  It looks very much like FG to me, certainly doesn't add to the driving pleasure

I've been scouring youtube so I don't have to charge up my video camera!

This gives you an idea as to what a 130 sounds like from inside, although I don't think it quite does it justice.  You need to drop the back windows to get the full effect!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmRdvz-PS6Y

Obviously not really one for the public highway, but you can't do this in your S3, Focus ST, Astra VXR or Golf GTI.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZAJT1Iiw-Y&feature=related

A bit of a long clip, but I like watching the 911 pull away down the straights (although not quite as quickly as you would have thought) but be caught eventually about 4 mins in!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6OnDvSmhmQ&feature=related

I might do mine eventually!

Martin. That is Monkey from the PG Tips adverts. As a massive tea drinker, he is my hero! The dangly thing is a Pongo air freshener. It doesn't add to the driving pleasure, apart from masking the smell of my farts...

I'd hardly call a stuffed monkey FG. And an air freshener is essential in any of my cars!

Monkey is light. His name is Monkey Cup. (He has stiffer suspension and no ABS)

Thank you.  I enjoy being childish at times.  Have to admit my chrome exhaust is shinier than everyones elses!

I assume the stutter is coming from the fact that I was revving it from between 3K and 5K rpm quickly, so spooling the turbo and not letting it spool down again before revving again, hence the stutter.

Only a guess.  Doesn't do it on the move and I don't make a habit of revving it like that anyway so i'm not unduely worried.

I know.  It's practically a Morris Minor, isn't it?

I have a drive-by, but it's almost all from in front, and I run into the rev limiter in 2nd because my mind is half on what the footage will be like.  It seems to get to 72 (limit in 2nd) quite sharpish.  Will try to do a better one, as the road where we did it isn't as quiet as it could be.

That's a bit sensitive for you Simon

I was only pointing out that the clip doesn't do the car justice.....

Bugger.  Getting this drive-by one is harder than I thought it would be.  I'd like to get a standing start one like the Z1, but can't think of anywhere safe to do it.

I've done for the Z1 with the new exhausts but need to get it uploaded tomorrow - like Matt's, it's in the dark (the light in the garage was insufficent for the camera) and sounds quite peculiar.

Reassuring! Not.

BTW, any idea what that high-pitched wobbly noise is? It's pretty much always there under acceleration.

Mine from inside (with the rear windows open hence the wind roar) at a slightly more jaunty angle than Piers effort.

That looks like a brilliant road, Michael. And of course the car sounds great!

It's a shame that a small microphone is unable to convey how opening the rear quarterlights really lets you enjoy the rasp from the exhaust.

It is a brilliant stretch of road. I've no idea what that creaking is. I think it's the camera moving around while clamped in the headrest but it doesn't sound like that in the car.

Can't say I noticed the creaking. The mic on my camera seems to have amplified small sounds enormously, such as the indicator tick.

I'll have another go with the windows shut another time. I did notice the indicators seemed very loud on yours. It's quick weird looking at the video as it seems like I was going much faster than I was.

I thought the same about mine.

Mind you, it is probably a good job the speedo is too dark to make out...

Hmmm...wonder if I can capture the Linglongs being totured when going into work tomorrow morning...

Nice hearing the sweet sixes of the Compacts again...not a sound (Nor any of the rest featured on hear) that you can get easily bored with.

No idea, I was wondering that myself, could be a leak or a split hose in the inlet somewhere.

I'm obviously not a natural, born cameraman.  I did an in-car bit yesterday afternoon, and trimmed off the excess front and back, leaving a 102 MB file.  Photobucket's maximum videofile size?  100 MB...

This is the run-into-the-limiter-in-2nd run, clearly leaving all the interesting noise behind it.  Arse.  I repositioned Mrs 12th for the one done on Sunday with here nearer to the garage, and proceeded to get the same thing in first.  Spielberg I aint...

I'm going to have to wait until I get home to see this properly. My crappy old Mac at work has difficulty dealing with video content in a smooth way, or in any way in fact.

It may also have something to do with the fact that the internet connection here seems to be more 'thin thread' than 'broadband'.

Pity this thread wasn't active when I had my Autocross E36 320i with just a down-pipe on the exhaust - it was quite staggeringly LOUD!

I'll definately run a recording of my new Passat Autocross toy, when I've doctored the exhaust suitably.

Don't think I'll bother recording the C1 diesel!

Z1 in garage when I was putting it away on Friday evening (so a bit dark). New exhaust is a bit quieter than the old given it doesn't have a fist size hole in one rear box!

Nice. The RS4 sounds great, as well. Result getting Mrs Twelfth to stand at the roadside toting the camera!

I won't be drawing her attention to that story, I think.

But yes, she was surprisingly game when I suggested it.

You could even cut a bit out of the other side of your rear bumper, save an old bog roll tube, squash it down to match the real exhaust and cover it in some more foil to make everyone think you have a 335d!

The only problem being his exhaust is squashed and point apologetically downwards.....

Nice idea though!

I thought an old bog roll would be ideal for replicating the effect!

Cut a section from a drainpipe and paint it with Silver Smoothrite, that should do the trick.  Even better if he cuts the end of it the current system first.

Seems like far too much effort though, I prefer Mikes solution!

You could even give Patsy Passat the same treatment so it looks like the superior 170bhp versions with their non turned down chromed exhausts, Martin!

Don't think I haven't thought about it!

Patsy

I'd rather have the 170hp and the soot free DPF, but I won't resort to 'chavvery' and get it chipped
