I'm glad you like the name.  I think your Passat looks like a Patsy.

A chip, chavvy?  Its only doing what VW have done at a factory, but if you are happy with your meagre 140bhp then so be it.

Steady on, you're forgetting that VW tends to under-quote power outputs so Patsy probably boasts, ooh, 150bhp!

Do they also under-quote how many engines and fuel pumps are required to acheive that figure too?

Poor Patsy has had her internals replaced mroe times that a 50 a day chain smoking old fag!

Yes, but don't forget, it has never broken down. Martin has elected voluntarily to stop and complete his journey on the back of a lorry!

I bet Martin really wants to blow a turbo in a proper, 1980s F1, stylee with lots of white smoke.

But as for 'Patsy' as a name

What most people forget is that the manufacturers usually do more than just pop a different bit of software in when they produce a car with a different power output.  The engine is pretty much the same, but they do make some changes.

You would love the guy with the 123d that's going 'modding' crazy and it already gone past the 260bhp mark with a lot of work still to do.

Piers - I completed the rest of my journey in a slightly more basic Passat, not in the back of a lorry!

Yes, it may have 140-150bhp, but think of all that torque....

70,000 miles now past and still going strong

Don't you like the name Patsy for the Passat, Martin?  Calling it Martina just seemed, well, a bit wrong.

I like the sound of 123d man - that thing will have some serious shove by the sounds of things though I would probably concur with you that a 130i would have the edge on it in terms of that little extra something.

It was certainly the case with the 1.8TDCI's that the ECU was changed to give the 100bhp and 115bhp outputs.  I assumed it was electronic tweakery and maybe slightly upgraded intercooler that gave the extra 30bhp in the 170 VAG 2.0TDI iteration.

Hopefully I will be getting mine on a rolling road soon so will find out exactly how many beans I have.

I have never ever named a car and I don't intend to now, so it wouldn't really matter what the name was.  I'm not a girl......

Well it sounds like the Passat has a name now, whether you like it or not...

You don't think it was me that decided to call my car Spanner, do you?!!!!

I have two children at home, which is more than enough.  I used to get a break from them on here.....

The main difference is that I won't be using the name

Mmmm - Joe mooted the idea of giving a name to the bus (our first truly co-owned vehicle). I said 'Good idea, let's call it 'The Bus''. And so it remains.

What about Das Bus?
That plate would work in Cornwall as pasty. I really like those carrot filled traditional Cornish pasties.

Here's mine, today.

Shortly after I fitted a K&N filter to it that was made for a Focus 2.0

Sounds a bit more throaty I think.

Apologies for the quality, I took it on my phone.

I have only just seen your post in the other thread about the Ford show but it looks like you have found what I was on about in any case.

The Puma sounds good.  As Matt said, just enough.  I've seen a photo somewhere of the last one you had on and it did look like it had been reversed over a dustbin.

Yep, I bought it without seeing it, and even when i picked it up i didnt realise how big it would be on the car.  The kicker is my oem exhuast had years left in it, the outer skin was starting to rust but i have since found out they are tripled layered.  Turned out alright in the end mind.
