I chose Barry because it was so random and different, the wife wanted Dexter and was dead against Barry; however, the "breeder" loved it and he was always referred to as Barry and it stuck.

His name is a great conversation piece when people stop for a chat about him.

He's tiny too, he fluctuates between 4-4.5kg.

I bet they'll be falling over themselves to put that right now!

How does that happen?  I bought my first pone for over 10 years yesterday and all I did was answer a couple of questions like where I lived and for how long.

See, that's the correct sized dog for a household pet in Guildford. I see people round my way with effing huge Great Danes and Dobermans: poor fuckers can't ever get a decent run about in suburban London / Surrey.

Looks like a jolly fellow, too.

I took this with an old manual SLR lens, pointed into the sun to get a sun star and flare...

I took this with an old 50mm f1.2, at f1.2 which has made it all soft and fluffy

Yeah, in theory this one would have died.  The local farmer just lets them die as it isn't worth his bother to hand rear them.  It's not ethical, but I'm not going to get into that.

Our dogs would savage it so we left it in the hands of a friend in the village who has a smallholding and knows how to look after it.  Once it is strong enough to look after itself it will be let out on the fell.

As you know, one of my main hobbies of late is flying R/C aircraft.

While I think it's fair to say I'm getting quite good at it, sometimes things happen totally outwith your own control. So, this happened on Saturday . .

Sadly, and perhaps unsurprisingly, it was beyond repair. It had hit so hard in fact, that the carb had been forced back into the crankcase and split it!   Once I'd got everything worth salvaging out of it, it was time for the traditional (at our field anyway!) fiery end.

Only got it last Tuesday; unseized the engine, cleaned the airframe a bit and a new receiver and it was good to go. Five days from resurrection to a pile of ash!!

Ah well . . . . . . .

It was buried past the leading edge of the wing root; engine & cowl were about 6 inches long, maybe a bit more! suffered a total loss of radio signal while flying at about 100 feet; quick flick into a half-roll (due to the torque of the engine was the consensus) and down she came. Estimated impact speed was somewhere around 55-60mph!

It's a testament to the strength of the build that there was anything left at all; my electric trainer would have totally disintegrated from an impact like that!!

... so as I am lining up to take some photos of Concorde, I notice 4 helicopters in the distance, but flying towards Intrepid... so I just have to wait and try to get them in the shot.....

... and I'm really pleased with the way that my night-time shots came out. This is just one of a few dozen

Spotted on my wanders today. Not sure if this is a bee or not - I don't think it is - as it only has one pair of wings that I can see, but I've also got in my mind that not all bees have two pairs of wings!!

Heelp!!

Just outside Barcelona.  Only 25mins from the airport or City but feels like we're in the middle of nowhere, it's so peaceful (apart from when the kids are in the pool....).  Nice road up here too, pretty smooth with hairpins and a great view.
