The top photo is a c. 1973 Chrysler New Yorker. A beautiful old station wagon (as they are called), just about car of the genre was overshadowed by GM's clamshell wagons (Chevrolet Brookwood to Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, depending on level of opulence) whose tailgates disappeared electrically into the floor when the key was turned in a slot at the back. I'm not sure what the New Yorker's engine is, but it might be the 440 cubic-inch V8 (7212 cc) that saw service here in the Jensen Interceptor.
The bottom car is a 1962 Pontiac Catalina.

are you quite sure? the top one was labelled as a chrysler town and country, while the 2nd is a chevrolet impala.......though I grant you, they might be mis named.

Not entirely, and I should have said so the first time.
I think the Town and Country name has to do with the wood on the side of the New Yorker (if that's what it is). It might be an upscale version of the same car.
With the second car, you are right. Chevrolets and Pontiacs were often the same car, the Pontiac being a slightly higher-spec version of the Chevrolet. I'm not such an anorak that I am able to tell the trim differences.
There is a very good website on classic US station wagons, called Rick's Station Wagon Site, or something. I'll try and find it and send it to you.

That Town and Country is very similar to the Ford Country Squire station wagon that my American uncle had in the '70s. HUGE, with three rows of seats, 'wood' panelling down the side and a 6.6 V8 under the hood. I loved it and so did my cousin, who drove it until it literally fell to bits in the late '80s.

What a great car, together with the posher Mercury Colony Park.
The Olds Custom Cruiser is my favourite, though, with the 455 Rocket V8.

A very mint looking Singer Chamois. Bright red with a black rook.

I want one, but I'm probably a bit big for it.

Loads of classics out on the road this weekend, enjoying the sunny weather.

Yesterday started off well with a mid 70s Opel Manta Berlinetta, complete with period vinyl roof.

Saw 4 Morris Minors - a Tourer, A Traveller, a 2 door and a 4 door, so full house on the variants then, apart from a Van!

Also, a "C" reg Renault Supercinq, looked immaculate.

Today, sat at the lights alongside a Mimoas coloured Triumph Stag, which sounded even better than my Alfa. Also, a Nissan S-Cargo, and an immaculate looking Talbot Solara (not many of them left now!).

This is actually a shot I took last year - not today - in the car park at the Square and Compass in Worth Matravers. Very tasty...

I saw two classics while in Blackpool, today. First was an immaculate Cashmere Gold Triumph Acclaim and the second was a less than pristine black Vauxhall Cresta PB which must be close to 45 years old now.

An Austin Gypsy on Blackhorse Road, about three miles from my house. I don't think I've ever seen one on the road before. Like this...

Can't see the disabled badge in the window  - or is it the blue thing?  I thought the badges were orange.

What car is it, anyway?

They've been blue for years, Dan.

It's a pity it's been fitted with 70s vintage door mirrors. A car of that age should have proper wing mirrors.

There was one of those in the JS car park a couple of weeks back.  Looked so out of place next to a brand new 3-series.

1. A dark-green Jensen-Healey in Holborn;
2. A grey Jensen Interceptor on the A4;
3. Double whammy at the Tesco Express petrol station on the Fulham Rd of an immaculate scarlet Ferrari GT4 (the Bertone-styled job) and a slightly tatty dark green Porsche 356 Speedster.

A lovely red Autobianchi Bianchina, turning off Holloway road and on to Caledonian Road this morning at about 9am. I altered my route to work so that I could catch it up and have a good look.

Therein lies the tragedy at the heart of the vehicle enthusiast.

Well, yesterday really. Went to Aldeburgh on errands and spotted an immaculate silver Citroen SM parked on the High St outside the Post Office. Looked very original and very smart.

Then a bit further on saw a beautiful rakish dark green Bentley S1 Continental 4dr saloon - the James Young coachbuilt version at a guess.

As I walked back from town this morning, I noticed a Volvo estate parked in a lay-by. It was only when I got level with it and was not looking into the sun that I realised it was a dark grey D-registered Amazon. For a 42 year old car it was in excellent, though not immaculate, nick.

Another Autobioanchi, this time an Abarth Settina Series A112, in yellow with lovely black plastic wheelarch extensions, on le Croisette in Cannes. There were Gallardo Spiders and AM DB9s everywhere, but I was more interested in this.

This morning I was following a convoy, at the head of which was an immaculate Renault 4. Once a common sight, I can't remember the last time I saw one.

An immaculate red Triumph TR3 getting a new head gasket in a garage in Dundee.

They've also got the garage owner's late model silver Alfasud TI tucked away under a dustsheet in a corner.

A large piece of mid-'60s Americana cruising between Perth and Dundee.

I have no idea what it was but it looked like a squared off Galaxie and was yellow with the black vertical dashes on the front wings. I think that may make it a Plymouth?

Today: A Rolls-Royce 20/25 (early 1930s for those who don't know) with what looked like a Barker sports saloon body, a Jensen FF, a 1960s VW Beetle convertible and a 1930s Lagonda (possibly a 3.5 litre).

A 1960s Sunbeam roadster just went by. The lovely V8 burble told me that it was a Tiger, rather than an ordinary Alpine. Great car for a sunny top down motoring.

Parked up in a small Swiss village was this immaculate Fiat 1100:

Just down the road from "Aventure Peugeot" in Sochaux was what looked like a car rental place, with various older one-time executive cars on the forecourt, none of which were pristine. My eye was caught by these:

A very rare Volvo 780 Coupe:

A rather nice Peugeot 604........ loved these when they were new. Such understated dignity!

My local area has been knee deep in classics this weekend. Must have been some sort of classic run. Plenty of RRs, Bentleys, MGs, an Alvis, some early '70s Americans and so on. Some were foreign resitered.

A late-model BMW M635 CSi parked on my street here in Moscow - apart from some nasty (but admittedly period-looking) aftermarket alloys, it looked immaculate. A rare spot at the best of times, but definitely vanishingly rare here.

Across the street from my current hotel, in the Hardbruecke area of Zurich (the Novotel), are 3 x Citroen CX (one is a Break, the other 2 are Berlines, all are pre-facelift), and a Peugeot 204. None of them have licence plates on. All look like they are in decent condition. Not in a place where I could really get a photo, though I may try, this evening.

I put this in 'Today I Saw' because I've only just looked in here but I saw a nice white Rover P6 parked about a mile from my house. I love them for some reason.
