You seem to have added one there. "Two-Forty-Oh-Arrr" would be the same as 2400R

Thats my point.

On the river that was once called the M4, I saw a very early (J reg) Range Rover.... bit battered, but what struck me was how narrow it is, and how gawky it looked on its narrow tyres......

Then soon after a recent 996 passed me, I saw a K reg (72 era) 911 2.4S....... again looked very narrow.

The third classic did not qualify for that.......... it was a Testarossa. Still a stunnin sight, even though it is nearly 25 years old now.

Like a granny on rollablades . . .
A Mark One Vauxhall Viva (the one with the knife-edge seams) puled out in front of me on the Sussex coast road today. It was largely in undercoat grey, but the bootlid was in vile, pale green.

During my abortive attempt to get to Malvern today, I found myself following a dark green Jaguar XK150. Having got to a point where the road was blocked by floods and stuck traffic we were both directed down a side road which got us back on to the A456. We went our separate ways at the next junction and on the way home I saw two more XK150s in Kidderminster. I guess they were heading for a gathering somewhere.

I was astounded, on Sunday, to see driving towards me on the Fosse Way an absolutely mint, pristine and apparently spotless metallic blue Allegro Vanden Plas.

When did anyone last see one of those moving under its own power?

Followed an immaculate K reg Mk 3 Cortina for about 10 miles out of London on the M4 this evening......... very much a 70s car, in Xl trim, with its vinyl roof and rostyle wheels........ nice to see what was once the best selling car and now a real rarity.

I love those old Citroen vans, they remind me of freshly fried frites we used to get on our family hols driving through France when I was younger.

The roads around Chipping Norton and Stow-on-the-Wold are a popular route to Prescott, so there was prctically a convoy of vintage motors to see over the weekend. Bentleys, Lagondas, Rileys, MGs, Alvises (Alvii?), Bugatti Type 35, etc.

Saw a very nice Mercedes 280SE 3.5 Convertible here in Moscow yesterday. Was a very deep metallic burgundy and looked absolutely immaculate as it glided past.

There was a Citroen DS21 sat at the roadworks in Lochgilphead today. It certainly wasn't in concours condition - looked like a daily driver. Lovely.........

I forgot to say I followed a DS the other day. Sort of caramel coloured with a brown roof. Looked in very good nick.

Loads of interesting classics out on the roads of Switzerland yesterday.

The Aargau branch of the TR Club were obvisouly out,as I saw 4 x TR4 in convoy and a few minutes later a couple of TR3s, and a TR6, all with "AG" plates.

At one point I saw a Testarossa and a F430 and then a 550 Maranello in convoy.

Several Mercs on the Sussen pass...... a couple of Pagodas from the 60s, and a few 190SLs.

The DS Cabrio picture is in my thread of Alpine Scenery.

At one point over the pass, I met a Murcielago...... quite a car for the tight hair pins! Late in the evening, I was caught up by, and quickly overtaken by an Espada.

A good few Corvettes - mostly recent - out and about, along with an MG TD and MG A.

Oldest car I spied was a 30s BMW...... not sure which model, but it was a very early one, perhaps a 315.

Oh, and then in Brunnen, I found this.............. when did you last see one? let alone one is such good condition?

As reported elsewhere - a Maserati Bora in East London yesterday. Today - a Cadillac Eldorado (early 1970s one with faired rear wheels), a Merc SL (the one after the Pagoda), an Alfa 105 coupe and Sud Sprint in convoy, and a BMW 3.0 CS bodyshell on the back of a truck.

A light blue/grey Austin Healey 3000 burbling through my village yesterday.
After church one Sunday morning recently, I recall the vicar's husband telling me that one of the congregation drives such a car. I must find out who it is.

A 1960's Lancia Aurelia coupe (2.0 litre V6, I think) with two classic exhaust pipes sticking out the back, Danish number plates and an original sixties 'DK' oval badge (pre-EU) on the boot lid. It is parked in the driveway of a neighbour's house.
What an absolutely beautiful old car.

Absolutely - the DB6 isn't as pure a shape as the DB5. I don't tend to see many classics here, since Russians tend to prefer the latest shiniest toy, but some evidence of a maturing of their taste can be found as over the w/end I spotted a very smart metallic brown Mercedes 380SLC on Tverskaya and an equally immaculate black Series III Jaguar XJ6 4.2 outside a nightclub.

Got passed by a classic ducktail 911 RS on the M4 to Heathrow last night. In white with red graphics and going like the clappers. Looked tiny and awesome under the motorway lighting...

Also saw some sort of pre-war Vauxhall Tourer in Southwold on Saturday. Very elegant and large car - possibly a 30/98?

Driving from mid Wilshire Blvd, back to my hotel near LAX airport, a few interesting things:

A BMW Bavaria.......... looks ever so small now, and yet this was the largest BMW on offer, in its day. (for those who are not sure, these were sold as the 2500/2800/3.0 Si and 3.3iL range in the early to mid 70s before being replaced by the first 7 series)

It was a bit tatty, but not as bad as the Sterling that I saw...... one of very few left in the US. Also, an equally tatty Peugeot 505 - that was also the last model that that hapless mfr sold in the US before pulling out.

Spotted on Sunday, at Hanbury Hall in Worcestershre a 1929 Bentley 4.5 litre, in concours condition. It was, understandably, the greatest attraction in the car park. When we returned to our car the Bentley owner was just about to leave, so I was able to have a brief chat. He has only had it for a couple of years, but does not race it. I took some photos on my film camera, but will post them on here once they have been developed and scanned onto a CD.

as I was waiting for the (perpetualy late) bus after work, I saw a early 70s S60 Toyota Crown Coupe battling it out with the rest of the rush hour, had THE most perquliar side lights I have seen on such an old car, and was absolutly mint!

It looked thusly....

but it was on steel wheels with period hub caps, and a vinal roof. God know what engine it was running, but it sounded remarkably tasty

A very elegant silver-over-grey Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III making progress down Noviy Arbat street in a snowstorm.

Super-cool! Not many Russians have that much taste.

Classics are pretty rare here and even more so in winter.

A white SM. It had a red interior, so I suspect it was the one I saw at the classic car show I went to at the start of September.

The top photo is a c. 1973 Chrysler New Yorker. A beautiful old station wagon (as they are called), just about car of the genre was overshadowed by GM's clamshell wagons (Chevrolet Brookwood to Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, depending on level of opulence) whose tailgates disappeared electrically into the floor when the key was turned in a slot at the back. I'm not sure what the New Yorker's engine is, but it might be the 440 cubic-inch V8 (7212 cc) that saw service here in the Jensen Interceptor.
The bottom car is a 1962 Pontiac Catalina.

The bottom car is a 1962 Pontiac Catalina.

are you quite sure? the top one was labelled as a chrysler town and country, while the 2nd is a chevrolet impala.......though I grant you, they might be mis named.

Town and Country ws the name given to the station wagon variant. The other doesn't appear to have the characteristic pointed nose of a Pontiac but I can't offer anything more constructive.
