Mark - Yep, that is Whitby, at the end of June last year when by rights i shouldn't have needed a coat!
One of the best things about visiting that neck of the woods is the drive to/from pickering, i love that road.

I wouldn't have recognised that as Whitby - whereabouts is that where you are standing?

I agree totally about that cracking road over the Moors from Pickering. When I was small I used to love coming round the hairpin bend at High Horcum and seeing 'The White Balls' arranged eerily on Fylingdale Moor. I still mourn their replacement by that dull triangular thing.

While I'm on the subject, I also abhor the transformation of the previously delightful village of Goathland into a monument of Heartbeat tat. I last drove through it a few years ago and was aghast at what I found. The quiet and picturesque place I remembered, with the wide grass verges and rows of stout cottages had become a hideous film set, full of appalling grockels. I intend never to return.

It's near the variety club/town hall(?) type building not far from the 2 tusks up the steps from the life boat station.

Sorry to be a gimp, but are you sure that is Whitby pkh72?

The only buildings (and road) at low-level on the front are just where the estuary meets the sea, where the Khyber pass drops down to low-level along Pier Road (I think that's what it's called, the one with the former Lifeboat station on), and these are on the North side of the estuary.

The picture appears to be taken across the estuary (South to North) but it's not wide enough and there is no parking on the South side (or road, save for a small access road to cottages).

It's clearly the North East Coast, and I thought it could be Sandsend, although I'm not sure now.

I'm confused - impressive considering I grew up a few miles away!

The roads over the moors are impressive, the car-mags always rave about the road from Castleton to the Moor Road (A171).  My personal favourite is the A169 that goes through Sleights and past Fylingdales - the 15 miles this takes you into Thornton-le-dale (via Dalby) are, frankly, pure pleasure.

It is Whitby, that's the carpark near the Whale jaw bones and the picture is looking down the beach with Sandsend just out of shot - check Google Earth!

Definitely Whitby - I had to park pretty much where Pkh72 is standing last year. I did need his confirmation though.

I was confusedly looking at Google Maps as well, trying to spot that car park. I couldn't work out where it would be as it looks like it's right down at beach level but Michael's explanation looks convincing enough!

That's the place, it's not far from Arnold Palmers crazy golf   , we were staying at a B & B on Argyle Road. The photo is taken with my back to Argyle Road and the others halfs back towards the harbour.

And this is me the summer before - sadly, the car's in the great scrapyard in the sky now...

I'll try and put up a more recent photo, if anyone's interested. Hell, I will even if you're not!

You look like you're melting into the sofa Matt   I never comb my hair, I could shave 4 times a day but I only bother with once. If I don't shave I look like a warewolf. I hate shaving

Hello Fiona

What sort of thing do you do for the NHS?

I used to work in NHS Forth Valley HQ.

Are you from the Stirlingshire area or is that just where you go to drive without lights?

Hi all, I'm Aminu - when you think of Amino Acid, think of me...or vice versa ;-)

Yesterday I met Colin, the Forum's Roving Reporter, and after neither of us could identify the model of a car (Rolls Royce 'erm') I saw on the weekend, he invited me to join the forum and post images of the car here to see how quick one of you can match a model (along with any other details) to it! Let the timer begin...

About me, I live in Luton...but spend most of my time in London...and other parts of the UK as work demands! Work as an IT Specialist, specialising in Lotus software. As with most of you, I love cars! Fom an early age I flirted with the best of them...more to follow in my posts! A taster below...on my way from the office to the Bridge to watch Chelsea play, chose to turn up in style so...
I took the MAYBACH 62...enough said!

Hi my names Jack.  I read this forum everyday all day like I'm sure many of you do also.  Not sure how much time I will have to post anything constructive but I will try my best!  I'm currently at University studying Business Information Systems and Management.  I'm 19 years old and currently drive a Ford Sportka.
I've tried a couple of times to post a picture but it seems it's just not happening!
