They become available from midnight GMT Friday hence every journo on the planet had copy delivered  by 0130 GMT this morning. Watched it this evening, turning off Children in Need as soon as that utter cunt Ricky Gervais appeared.

It's Top Gear as was. Without SIARPC thank god. Cinematography is utterly fucking stunning. The American audience were all dipshits.

So the format is still the same? Is that allowed?

I guess lawyers have been consulted...

It was live in the US on Thursday night.
I checked it out and ended up watching it.
Very similar format but some stunning photography, some decent cars too. Wondering if it was the TG - I mean GT team who were dissing Ferrari so much or if Ferrari really have become so anal about their cars that they won't allow anything to be measured.

I like that 918 though.

I tried watching it on my iPad last night, but the sound was breaking up constantly. Got annoyed and turned it off. Will try it again on the TV tonight. Who was (were?) the band at the beginning? Sounded a bit like the Hothouse Flowers!

Just watched it. It was fantastic. Great opening. Clearly a big budget. Hope the rest of the series is up to that standard.

Only minor gripe - the language was bit sweary for watching with a 7 year old. I'd better not hear some of the words repeated, I told Evan!

Bring on the next one!

It seems they also thought it was about time to drop SIARPC so it was good to see them do so in a more humorous manner than just pretending it was never a thing.

The language was very poor, it's just not necessary and can easily be edited (and I don't mean seeing either Hammond or Clarkson clearly mouth 'fuck' with a beep over it as being good enough), all the driving and cinematography was enjoyable but the 'twatery' in the studio is as embarrassing as always - the 'Best Air Force' bit was shitter than shit with a shit topping, for example.

I'll watch it, half of it will annoy me and the other half won't.

Amazon's rules on advertising made me chuckle, why they blanked out the MAN badge on the truck is utterly beyond me.

I must admit I didn't notice any bad language, maybe I'll have to watch it again.

I thought it started brilliantly but flagged a bit in the middle during the parts inside the tent (Carol Vorderman??) To be honest they should have edited a lot of that out but I guess they have to justify the expense of carting it around and setting it up in different locations.

Anyway, good first episode, very Top Gear, but none the worse for that. I'm not sure the BBC will be losing much sleep though.

Enjoyed it - same strengths and weaknesses as TG proper, basically.

Got a colleagues Amazon log in and watched this yesterday.

In 4k so straightaway a bonus, great visuals, the three of them at their best, thoroughly enjoyed it.

I paused the TV when the 918 was powersliding round a corner, when I came back to it my thought was 'oooh, 4K and superb camera work is something to behold'!

Bob Sacamano wrote:

As I mentioned, a few too many bleeped-out 'fucks' which are easy for anyone to spot*, I think the American chap driving the M2 says 'Arse' at one point and there are a few too many 'Bloody Hell' and 'Bloody...whatevers'; the last two are on the edge with a 7 year old watching, the others simply too much.

*FB junior fessed-up a while back that he was told off at school for saying 'fuck' - he had heard it in the playground, didn't realise what it meant and repeated it in dinner and was overheard by one of the dinner lady's; it's a difficult line but the school were very good at explaining it is not an acceptable word even though people use it, watching The Ape and Hamster both mouth it (in stunning 4K) kinda undoes a lot of that, especially as it was unnecessary and it should be a family show (of sorts) - the content is fine, but the unnecessary language is not. On TG the presenters had some other terms they used which any adult could see what they were getting at, the Amazon rules are sadly too relaxed.

For the same reason I was keen for him to watch 'Chris Hoy at 200mph' which he would love and I think he would really get something out of but decided to try it myself first as it was on at 9pm; I'm glad I did, the potty-mouth on the team manager (who ought to be advised that every second word being 'fuck', 'fucking' or 'fucker' somewhat detracts from the gravitas attempted to be given) and C4's relaxed approach to editing mean he won't get to see it which is a shame.

Agree on the swearing, perhaps it's because it was pre watershed on the BBC before whereas now you can watch it whenever you like, but it was noticeable and I did wonder if those of you with kids watching it would be slightly nonplussed. My two girls aren't at all interested in GT sadly. They seem to be more interested in binging on Harry Potter movies!

Watched it yesterday. Fantastic cinematography, good cars, thoroughly enjoyed it. Bring on the rest of the series.

Yes, some of the studio stuff was a bit lame, but I'm thinking that was not helped because Amazon had clearly mandated that the first episode had to be set in the US.  If it had been in the UK, I think the banter would have been a lot more natural.

Amazon had also, it seems , mandated that the race driver had to be American too. So maybe them choosing some arsehole NASCAR driver, an unknown outside of NASCAR, was the team already having a dig back at their employers?

Was I the only one surprised to see Richard Porter's name in the credits? After all he hardly spared Clarkson in his book.

Explains a lot. Had the humour of the old TG and it felt re-invigorated.

Even better cinematography (I suspect I won't be the only person buying a new TV this week) and as was said by Scouse amazing opening sequence.

I'm gonna have to declare it as dull, as I haven't been able to make it through the whole thing without falling asleep yet. I don't mind the other two so much, but Clarkson is just a giant smug cunt. He probably always has been, but seems worse now he's getting paid grillions by Amazon. That shite about them knocking his house down; he was already planning on doing that anyway to build a new mansion on the same spot, so the race results were probably fixed and I seem to recall him saying he'd change his name to Jennifer if the Porsche was faster...

Horribly disappointing, IMHO. I'd enjoyed their last (curtailed) TG series, but this was so bad I stopped watching after half an hour. Just glad I didn't pay for a subscription. Five minutes of watching them walk through cheering crowds tells me their egos have gone beyond any semblance of control. And script editor Porter hasn't had an original idea since about 2002.

From the mirror article

"Villagers in nearby Chadlington said Clarkson and his team were in the area filming for his new Amazon TV show The Grant Tour this week."

If anything is further away from living on Grants it's the Grand Tour

I suppose another criticism of it was that the test of the Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren was done a year ago by Chris Harris using exactly the same cars at the same track so we kind of knew what the outcome would be.

It's just Top Gear as was but without SIARPC.  We either liked (and therefore still like) it, or the reverse.

I see the second episode has ended the honeymoon for some. I still enjoyed it. Yes, the VIP rescue went on too long, but as least they paid homage to all the films where an A8 gets caned in the chase sequences. And the Edge of Tomorrow restart style was well done.

What I thought was much better was the banter with the live audience. No Americans.......

More like the old TG but still enjoyable, though the rescue went on too long.

Would I pay for it? Not sure, we've just using trial accounts to watch it for the moment.

Would I watch it? yes, if it's on.

The A8 bit was funny, especially when Clarkson's kecks fell off, it looked like a right laugh as well. I don't get the Vulcan, it's ugly, expensive and can't be used to its full potential. Strikes me as a massive AM dick swinging exercise.

The A8 bit was funny, especially when Clarkson's kecks fell off, it looked like a right laugh as well. I don't get the Vulcan, it's ugly, expensive and can't be used to its full potential. Strikes me as a massive AM dick swinging exercise.

Not much different to Ferrari's FXX program though and if it makes money, perhaps not directly but by keeping the super rich for whom only spending 150k on a car is bit below them, happy then I can see why they would do it.

To be fair episode 2 of TG tended to be shit if I remember; you can get away with that as Ep 1 was good enough for viewers to give Ep3 a go. Also remember there are 12 of these: far longer a series than the last few TG series. Expect some crud.

Agree rescue bit was too long and audience was better than Yanks. That Aston was revolting.

I gave up after James May was shot for the 5th time in the S8 piece. However I liked the Vulcan - it's like any expensive extravagance - the world would be a poorer place without it but it is largely useless.

Episode 3 was very good, just not sure why the tent wasn't in Italy!
