Interesting, though 30mins isn't enough.  It does set me thinking, though...

No, they're older than those and no doubt discontinued. Something like E2c or E3c, I think. They were about a ton over here at the time, but I got mine in the States for about £65.

I assume you mean when new, not every day?! I must admit I've been disappointed so far so I hope they are just bedding in.

At the moment the sound is very clear but not rich or bassy. It's also odd that they don't have volume on the control thingy.

sound like cars is subjective, just because what hi fi rate something does not mean it will suit your ears.In ear phones usually will lack bass .
The problem with in ear phones is you cannot buy before you try .

I think it's truer to say that there is a degree of subjectivity, but ratings are not arbitrary.

And if in-ears fit snugly and have a proper seal, there's no reason why bass performance need be compromised.  What you don't get is the sensation of bass energy from the headphones sat on the head and transmitting vibration into the skull.  That isn't necessarily a bad thing in terms of fidelity.

I hope it's just that they are warning up. My first listen was compromised by the tips being too small which is now sorted but the review talked of a punchy bass and weight to the sound that I'm not getting.

They have replaced Sennhieser MM 30is, so the in-ear headphones lacking bass thing is a red herring.

Push 'em in you earholes further, they're not sealed tight enough.

Bought The Beatles 1+ yesterday. It's a CD + 2 blu ray set and I've a feeling it might be worth some money soon enough, as it is selling out quite quickly. If that doesn't happen I'll just open it! Did the same last year with a box set of Tears For Fears' first album, the first 500 copies of which came with a 7" single. That cost me £40 and the version without the extra 7" sells for around £100 these days. Most buyers sell the vinyl separately for £15-20, so the full set is pretty rare.

Nice one Bob

I have that same album on cassette, when it came out.  Worth about tuppence ha'penny!

Simon (P), if your Beatles and Tears For Fears sets had been a 911 GT3 and a GT3RS, keyboard warriors would be bemoaning how you'd bought them to flip rather than to drive as intended!

I opened the TFF one in the hope that I'll get the forty quid back on the 7" single one day!

It goes without saying that in general, things I don't like are by definition a load of tosh.  But the Stone Roses are one of those bands where I don't get what the fuss is about at all, but I know enough people who I consider to have good taste who really rate them that I am prepared to consider them a 'blind spot' on my part.

I think, moreso than many bands, The Roses capture a moment in time for a lot of people, particularly in the North West, when Manchester was in the ascendancy.

I really liked their first album and have grown to love it over the years. Their concerts are immense - as long as Ian Brown behaves himself.

Speaking of which; Brown's Unfinished Monkey Business solo album is one of my all time favourites.

Today I will be mostly wearing flares and flower print t-shirt.

Stone roses first album is glorious ,the rest is shit. And I could not bear to see them live, ian brown cannot sing .

Funnily I know aziz who is/was Browns guitarist and briefly was the guitarist for the stone roses.

I saw them when they first started out,I would like  to say it was because I was so hip and cool ,but they were playing at the ritz in manchester which is where we went for punk night, one night we arrive to be told theres no club night instead this group are playing called the stone  roses.didnt think they would make it tbh.

How are you getting on with them?

What Hifi are offering a free pair of the soundmagics with a minimum 6month subscription for £22. Works out at the earphones are half price with 6 free magazines. Bit late for you now mind...

I got some free Sennheiser 'phones doing that. They were the gift for taking out a sub, but then the mags failed to turn up. I complained and cancelled the sub and they gave me a refund and let me keep the headphones as an apology.

Getting better! they are definitely waking up but still not loud enough for my liking. As my Sennhiesers died I can't compare and the ones I gave to Mrs D are also kaput so I'll try against the new iphone 6 ones (a big improvement on previous versions) and maybe book into the doctor for a check up!

The lack of volume control is also annoying me.

Simon B, put their first album on, loud, through your decent system

I listened to it again about a week ago , only through my soundbar whilst decorating ..  It's a stunning album , a great haunting intro on the opening opening track followed by so many hits , and then resurrection to close, with that brilliant instrumental

The UK/US re-release is even better as that gets the songs Elephant Stone and fools gold included too

Not much of a fan myself and, as said above somewhere, IB has been a useless live singer whenever I've seen clips.

For reasons that may become obvious if you put 2 and 2 together, "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille" has been revolving in my head since the end of September....

You picked a fine time to leave us, Lucille,
Four or more bank accounts and a car in the garage.
We've had some glad times, now come the sad times.
The end of your life's come to pass.
Your passing's a pain in the a**e

Our debut single, which was only dreamt up in August and hastily added to the album tracking, will be available soon. Here's a taster of the artwork for it:

We hope to have it ready for Crimbo.

Well, our rehearsal studio suffered a major blow last weekend. The current weather situation saw a massive hole get blown in the roof and the whole shebang was flooded. Thankfully, and somewhat selfishly, none of our gear was stored there, but the the clobber belonging to the studio wasn't so lucky. Not all of it got damaged, but a significant portion did. So, for the foreseeable future, we have no where to practice.

It's giving my a chance to catch up on lyrics and arrangements, but it means the album is even further down the road.

Sorry to hear that, Blarno.  I do like the single artwork, it reminds me of an artist called Peter Howson.  He did some pretty controversial paintings when he was an official war artist in Bosnia.

Our artwork was done by our drummer. He likes to do monochrome marker drawings, which Hulk started out as. He then put it through Photoshop for the Pop Art dot matrix effect.

He's done marker portraits of all the band members as well, he's a talented man.

Good stuff.  And now I finally get 'Banner Smashed Face' as being a Hulk reference!  I thought it was an odd title and wondered if the lyrical content of the song might contain  something about protest marches and overzealous policing.

It's also a sneaky nod to Cannibal Corpse and their touching weepy ballad Hammer Smashed Face.

How are you getting on with them?

What Hifi are offering a free pair of the soundmagics with a minimum 6month subscription for £22. Works out at the earphones are half price with 6 free magazines. Bit late for you now mind...

Are you happy with them yet? I've had mine a few days and are getting really rich. I'm surprised you think they lack bass, I have the equaliser on my iPhone turned off but find the bass very deep, clear and controlled.  do you have the correct sized buds for your ears, maybe you aren't getting a good enough seal?

The lack of volume control is irritating though!

Don't say I never give you anything. That's the closest we have to a fully recorded song - it was recorded last night, straight from the floor, in a new studio. I've not tracked vocals for 13 years, so if I sound rough, it's because I am. The levels are all to cock, not surprising when the drums were mic'ed with a vocal mic and guitar/bass were straight to the desk.

The main basis of the song is there, there's another verse/chorus to be added and then maybe some double tracking of the guitars or lead work.

Then the other 11 tracks on the album.

Just got in from seeing Turin Brakes. Great live and a bit rockier than on the records.

I'm currently in band limbo. We've not jammed or recorded anything since our drummer fucked off in March and I'm in two minds about whether to even bother carrying on - it took me 13 years to get players into the band in the first place and all we have is 12 partially written songs. I don't doubt that we can finish them, but the pressure of it all is too much for me. I can happily write and record all the guitars, and program drums, and arrange everything, but the lyrics and melodies are still stopping me. I'm tempted to try drafting in a full time drummer and a full time vocalist and let them take up the slack. Unfortunately, at that point, it becomes a different band. I'll use the same basis of songs, but rework them to match the new vibe.

If we do choose this route, I'm going to rename the band Nailgun.

Just because.

Not a huge Coldplay fan (they do have some good songs and the first album was class)

But what a performance at Glastonbury last night

I watched ELO, who were excellent, but turned over a few songs into Coldplay's set. Absolutely no comparison. We could hear Adele at work the night before!

I am a Coldplay fan; their older stuff more so, they always put on a great show, they were brilliant at Glastonbury 2011 when we went.

I saw a bit of the Coldplay set and will watch the recording later. I did enjoy the New Order set and liked Bernard's comment about Adele's boyfriend must have been a right twat.
