Well done.

Woohoo! Excellent Choice!    I am now deeply, deeply envious.  Fancy a trip to south Warwickshire?

For advice and info, I would recommend that you familiarise yourself with these places:

I totally agree.  Only a Jaguar and Mondeo have impressed me more.

So not only does it sound and look like a man's car. It drives like one too. Well done.

I've got one of those '5p off each litre of fuel' vouchers if you'd like it.

I wonder what mpg you'll get in the real world - my guess is 20.

If not less.  18 is what I expect on my current usage.  Needless to say I'll be cycling more.

No pics yet - don't have the car until 1st Oct.

Certainly up for some more local mini-meets as and when time allows.

I believe they are EP Tyres Accelera Phi:

http://www.eptyres.com/detil_prod...&title_list=Accelera%20Series

Not brilliant but I have seen others on the 260's forum with them on.  They will be changed for Toyo T1R's in time.  Once I have some spare cash for the Toyos I might smoke the Acceleras into oblivion

Sold the IFAT yesterday.  To the same dealer I bought it from.  About 300 quid less than I expected from a private sale but time was pressing on and a bit of haggling secured a price of £7300 (I know, I know...but private buyers were just not biting for some reason).  Anyway, to be honest I just think "good riddance, you can have it back".

Just got to sort insurance now.

Well, it's a bit late for it now but a nice RX-8 might have fitted your criteria, although, it's not as much of a hooligan as the ZT...

RX8?  Was an early consideration but then against the 260 it was, well, a little too sensible.

I am chomping at the bit to get this 260 now, like I never have done over a car before.  There is quite a list of little "foibles" to check and correct if necessary but, again, that is going to be part of the fun for me.  But I'm renewing my AA cover, just in case...!

As an aside, the dealer, who now also has an Abarth franchise, had a rather lovely 55 plate Monaro in the showroom.  Never been up close to one before so had a bit of a paw over it and sat inside.  I hadn't realised quite how massive they are.

Brilliant choice of car Stu.

Much as I love small cars, big ones with V8s rock my world too.

Looking distinctly like I won't be collecting the car on Thursday.  Garage can't get hold of an aircon compressor as yet.  May be another week yet, due to work shifts.  Bugger.

Yup, but it's worth waiting to pick up a sorted car, and it'll gave up more time to anticipate!!!

Fantastic news Stu!

Some may say it's irrational, but I love the fact that you had a hankering for a (possibly) oddball choice and went for it. And I can completely see the appeal!

I hope you have many, many happy miles together

You're not wrong, Alan.

Mr S, many, in fact most, people look at me as though I have two heads when I tell them.  You really can't explain it to most people.  Was having a good chat with my neighbour earlier though.  He's dead keen to have a ride in it and is hankering after something a little silly himself, but he's more of a bike man.  He ran a V8 Disco up until late last year, which always sounded lovely coming up the street.

Oh, as an aside, the Fiat is on the forecourt at Research Nuneaton for 8995.  I got 7300.  No surprise but I'm still a little pissed off it didn't go sooner, for more, after being advertised in 3 places for 2 weeks.  Ho hum..

Console yourself with the likelihood it won't sell for that!

I sold an Astra Sport some years ago, and the garage which bought it had it on the forecourt for £2,500 more than they gave me. I got a couple of pals to keep an eye on it for me, and it eventually sold for only £700 profit!!

Haha, I thought to myself, serves them right for being so greedy!!!

Get a milltek system for it and it will blow the clothes off women when you boot it.  But when your cruising you wont notice its there.

Indeed.  I'm glad it's gone to be honest.  No emotional attachment whatsoever - and therein lay the problem, I guess.  If there was an attachment on an emotional level then those niggling faults could be brushed aside.  The ZT is likely to be far more fault-laden than the Fiat was - but somehow I suspect I will forgive it each time I get in and turn the key...

Given the grief you had with the Fiat (or rather the people appointed to look after it), the MG might be a pleasant surprise.

Nice choice Stu - hope the aircon compressor gets sorted soon so you can enjoy it. Whenever I go to the MBC I come away with a hankering for a VXR8 or Monaro - dynamically not the last word but to me it looks a bit 'raw', uncouth and a characterful drive

Not sure if they tried anyone other than X Part.  I had read that the compressor is the same as the V6 Mondeo/Cougar and suggested that route to the workshop.

In any case they have now sent the existing compressor to be reconditioned but this will take around 5 working days.

So another week until I get the car.  Severely disappointed but the wait will be worth it, I'm sure.

The Alfa I traded for the BM sat at the garage for 7 months.
They started off trying to sell it for about £1500 more than I paid for it (with discounts) brand new

Last time I checked it they were selling for £2k less than they gave me for it. Dunno if they gave up and auctioned it or whether it sold.

Still not ready!  If it isn't ready to collect by the end of this week I'll be after something in the way of compo out of the dealer.  Why didn't they order the compressor as soon as I put a deposit on the car?  I am itchingto get this car!

And why the feck are trains so expensive?  Hinckley to Leeds £66 standard single FFS!!  I'd hire a car one way but for the fact it'd have to be dropped off somewhere miles from the garage and there would still be a taxi or a bus to pay for.

Is this getting to the point where you tell them to shove the car where the sun doesn't shine and go to find another one?

I think I would be tempted, but just try and get that deposit back! Looks a nice car, I hope you get it soon.

Phoned again today.  The compressor might be back tomorrow and still has to be refitted.  So it is highly unlikely to be ready this weekend.  Then I'm back in work, so realistically my next chance is going to be 19th Oct at the start of my next set of rest days.

I expressed how deeply disappointed I was and that I would be losing out on half a month's tax, and not having a vehicle.  Salesman mentioned the use of a courtesy car but will ring tomorrow.  One thing's for sure - I am not going all the way to Leeds just to collect a courtesy car.  A hire car would suffice I suppose, on the proviso I collect it here and drop it off there.

I had hoped to enjoy this set of rest days getting to know my new car, but sadly it's not going to happen.

I always though you needed a small yappy dog for the parcel shelf?

...and a picnic blanket on the rear seat?

Got to love the old AA grille badge.  Only thing missing them is the compulsorary parcel shelf tissues.

Hang on a min, has it got a parcel shelf?  You got the estate one or saloon?

I used to have a tartan rug on the parcel shelf of my Montego GTI.

That together with mudflaps and a towbar - not on the parcel shelf obviously - confused a lot of people who I then burned off (back when 115BHP was actually worth something ).
