XFR - Autocar road test

They really do like it!

So do I. Actually, I really like every XF.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Me too, but I was still surprised that it got a higher rating than the GT-R and RS.

I was genuinely impressed by the build quality I saw on the one I looked at.I would never ever have considered a jag  ,but this and the xkr are ultra desirable..and good value compared to the opposition.

Floats my boat, I would take a rain check on the particular example on the Autocar web page though

Indeed - at least we know the registration!

But Autocar get the hyperbole out for every new Jaguar, Ford or Land Rover.

I'm not saying it's not good but I think there's a serious amount of jingoism involved.
Twelfth Monkey

It appears to be an exceptional car.  Still doesn't do it for me, but life would be dull etc etc.

A "serious amount" being maybe half a star if we're being really picky? The current M5 got 5 stars too IIRC and the R8 and RS6 four and a half.

So, even if you remove the jingoism that might or might not be there, it is still one heck of a car and if you factor in the price, probably is the best one out there. Personally I think it looks the business and clearly goes like it too.

But then I might be being jingoistic.

I'm not disputing that. I just get bored by the way Autocar shrieks like an overexcited teenybopper whenever there's a new Jaguar and declare it the best thing since the invention of the wheel. And we accuse other nation's journos of bias...

The other cars you mentioned were under the old less strict star rating.

...which seems to be in the process of reassessment.  I think The Beast is now 4.5 stars in the past masters, having been a 5.

What's with the piccies in the mag of the XFR taking to the air - Ned Alert?  Have to agree it oozes appeal
Turbonutter

I'd like it with a manual box option - just don't like autos....no matter how clever they might be

I'd be more concerned by the one where it comes to earth.  The front valance might not be in tip top condition anymore...

Great looking car - apart from the 'Supercharged' lettering on the bonnet vents. That's a bit too Range Rover 'Sport' for my liking. Hopefully drug dealers won't switch their allegiance from the 'Sport' to the XF-R

I agree - I seriously dislike all the 'R' badging on the car - including where it is embossed (maybe stitched - can't tell for sure) on the seats.

It's a shame to spoil such a good looking thing.

Nice car although the centre console is a bit USS Enterprise for my taste.

I'm perpetually disappointed by the weight of cars like this, though - nearly 2 tonnes according to the text.

Clarkson was going on about this in the ST a few weeks ago when reviewing a Jag.

It does look heavy on track

I'm not - large saloons aren't piling on the pounds as much as some other stuff - a Lotus Evora is knocking on 1400kgs. They are completely different animals, of course, but the Jaguar is a hell of a lot more car for a half tonne penalty - and only £10k.

And hopefully the Jag won't smell of glue either.

I'll get my coat...........
