I've never seen a snake in the uk. Are they common in your part of the world?

Nice captures Trev! Is the second last one a slow worm? Never seen one, so not sure.

My dad was bitten by an Adder in his back garden a few years ago.

Great photo's Trev.

T'is indeed a slow worm - although it was a bit quick off the mark! About a foot long, it was.

We did wonder if it was a snake (adders are common round here) but it doesn't have the markings of neither an adder nor a grass snake. As I don't recall seeing a pic of a smooth snake, I don't know if it was one or not (I don't think you find them this far North anyway).

Anguis fragilis, is actually a variety of limbless lizard.

I think I knew that, but Wiki confirms it! Thanks, Wiki.

Everybody knows a slow worm's not a snake.... don't they?

Not slow, not a snake or a worm - is this a prime example of ironic animal naming of what?!
