VW Arteon

Roadsterstu

Passat CC?

Replacement thereof
PhilD

The front could do with a few more horizontal lines. Other than that it's a thumbs up from me.

VW really have a penchant for gold paint at the moment - unless someone at the factory accidentally bought in too much and now the marketing team are trying desperately to shift it!
Stuntman

I like the basic shape of it.  Not the most adventurous design, but nicely elegant.  Agree with Phil on the need for yet more horizontal lines!
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Reminds me of the new Lexus LS, for some reason. That's a good thing, though ...
simonp

Those turbine rims are getting as tiresome as the Ford snowflakes...
Racing Teatray

A bit too cab-forward for my tastes but generally ok.
DetmoldDick

To my eyes that is very nice indeed, love the rear haunches.
Twelfth Monkey

I'm torn between saying it's quite nice but a little uninspired, but then remembering that I often criticise stuff for being different for the sake of it.  Surely there's room for some creativity without contrivance?

Didn't like Metallic Piss when BMW used it - still don't!
JohnC

I think that's a pretty good looking car, except the front grill which is a mess. It's as though they ran out of ideas at the front. Tidy the front up (in a non Passat way) and it could be a winner if priced right.
Bob Sacamano

Lots of companies use that metallic piss colour, and have done for years. They do it to make sure the launch gets noticed. Launch pics in greys, silvers, white etc tend to get missed.
Martin

Agree with the comments about the grille and (particularly) the colour, but I really like it.
Blarno

Ditch the Pissrat and just make this instead, it's at least half interesting to look at.
Michael

I'd hazard a guess VW are more instered in making money so will produce both for that reason.
BeN

The front does look a bit messy but otherwise I quite like that.
Chris M Wanted a V-10

Somehow to me, the large glass roof panel doesn't look right on such a sleek body shape; a single tone roof should work much better (IMHO)
Giant

I like it. The detail of running the lines of the headlights into the grill looks good, but they then got far too carried away with the horizontal lines theme.
PG

I like that. I can see what people mean about all the lines across the the front, but it looks OK to me. Slightly interesting and yet not in your face like the bigger Audis.

If I read that right, it's a 5 door only. So targeting the A5 and 4GC then?
Michael

I like it too. I think the grill will work better in reality as the camera view is lower than you'd view it in person. Interesting that the press shots are taken on an imaginary bridge in London.
Grampa

I presume the yellow one is the sports model and the grey one the standard one?

I prefer the front of the grey one, but the piss yellow is a gorgeous colour.

I have no problem with all the lines on the front - I think it works a lot better than most other cars trying to make a 'statement' with the grille.
simonp

If it's a 5 door and available with an interesting petrol engine I could be very tempted...
Martin

It is a 5 door and it's reported to have the option of a 267hp petrol engine.

simonp

Sold! I'm assuming it's just a VW version of that go faster Skoda Superb that was announced a while back?

Does look rather long, thinking more sensibly about it. I have trouble parking at work as it is because the car park is so cramped!

No bloody rear wiper on such a large back screen - no sale

Would kind of be perfect for me if it had one...large car, big boot, looks fantastic (those horizontal lines work really well) and a smart, well appointed, handsome interior
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Shame it doesn't get the TT RS fiver

No rear wiper is really not an issue on a coupe/fastback design. Anything from 10 to 50 will get you a glass treatment that will last a month or so, up to a year. If you never wash it then its effectiveness will diminish but it will still repel water and dirt. I never have any rear view problems.
Michael

Does it come with mudflaps? If they're not an option, ideally those with reflectors already built in, then it's not for me. Also, is the passenger side door mirror an optional extra? I wouldn't want to pay for that.

They only started to appear when hatch backs with steeply sloping screens (Fiesta etc) became popular - agree there's not really any need on this shape car - just useful to clear the screen when the car's been sitting in the rain.

The Skoda Superb hatch has a rear wiper option. Seems to be a no cost one, too, amazingly!

I'd want those static strips as well ...
