Virginal Perth

As you may remember, I went on my long-awaited hot-air balloon ride over the Fair City on Friday. Took loads of shots, but so far I've only had time to process the ones from my TZ4.

To start with, the balloon has to be blown up, using a couple of petrol-powered blowers.

Nearly there....

Over the city

First decent view of the Tay as it wanders through the city.

Looking back to Perth as we crested the hill

Matt

I'd love to do a balloon ride. Great pictures from the basket.

River Tay again, with the Friarton Bridge in the distance.

Smile!!

Big, innit?!

Polytunnels - the blight of modern agriculture.

What the balloon looks like as it deflates.

Lastly, a quick shot (from my Nikon) of the burner flames. Warmed us up lovely in the 3℃ temperature on Friday morning!!

I've got well over 100 shots to get through and process from my Nikon, which (pruned substantially) I'll put up in a few days if there's any interest.
..

Great stuff!

Great shots...

Thankyou!

Looks superb, is it really quiet as you glide?

Good pics, Ian! Not up my street (I'm now scared-stiff of heights, the older I get)

Quiet like it's almost impossible to find these days! As we flew over the outskirts of the city at about 1800 feet, all we could hear was one barking dog - no traffic, no radio chatter and NO 'planes!!

The only noise of any note was the obvious - the burners; but even they weren't as loud as I'd expected!

Ian - you should come out to where I live - there are many places near here that you can go and not hear a single mechanical or electrical noise. Just the sounds of nature.

Mind you, you can go just about anywhere in Yurp now and not hear the sound of a single plane!

So what's on the island in the middle of this picture? Is it a park, and if so, is it open to the public?

Great pics, BTW.

Embarrassingly, I'm not sure! TimR will be most likely be able to tell us, as my usual source for info re Perth and its' environs is on holiday in Oz for a month!!
The bridge going over it is the main line from Perth station, that I do know, and it looks like there are quite a few houses on it, but other than that  I'm stumped I'm afraid.

It appears to be called Moncreiffe Island and is almost completely taken up by the King James VI Golf Club. From the aerial/satellite photo, the 'houses' near the railway line at the narrow end appear to be allotments.

Cheers Dave. I take it you "Googled" it? I didn't have time, as I was just about to go out!!

I'll accept your excuse, this time.

Good shots those. I'd love to try something like that.

Thanks mate. Work on the shots from my Nikon has come to a grinding halt at the mo', for a variety of reasons. Will get them done and posted soon though.
