Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi SE

My first time with an Insignia – only driven around 25 miles so far – but what an improvement, and in fact, what a car.

The exterior & interior quality is streets ahead of anything from Vauxhall in the past (regardless of range) and way ahead of the Mondeo and, I think, the Passat. It really does feel and act ‘Premium’ (crap word but you know what I mean). The steering is very communicative and direct making the whole thing feel really alive on the road - the biggest problem with the old Vectra (for me) was it's dull & numb steering, so this is a massive step forward.

This is the CDTi SE model with half leather lots of kit. I did also have the choice of a Silver SRi on 20” wheels but I have lot of mileage to do from tomorrow and took the safer option (ride-wise). There will be other times I can take the SRi version, no doubt.

I’ll post more detailed thoughts and pictures when I get some more time.

I've seen a few of these now and they have certainly grown on me.  They look very smart.

My neighbour ordered one of the CDTi (160php) ones early in Feb and his delivery date has been put back 3 times due to factory shut downs - they are now quoting end of May as they are shutting dowwn for 3 weeks over Easter.

A friend who sells Vauxhalls tried to order an Insignia for customer last week and was quoted August delivery! I don't know if this is due to unprecedented demand or just crap production scheduling. Seems strange though in these times when GM is deperate to sell as many cars as possible.

I saw a black estate yesterday, which was quite a looker.

Funny as the more I see them, the less I like them.

I have to say that I agree.  Quite like the Mazda 6 though...

I saw a new Mazda 6 parked next to a previous generation one yesterday and the thing that shocked me was just how bloody big the new one is. It just dwarfed the old one. It looked even bigger than a Mondeo.

I've mentioned this before, but no-one seeemed to agree.  Guy around the corner has one in black, and I think it's the height of the arches/bonnet/boot that make it look so large, rather than its footprint.

My next door neighbour had an Insignia hire car on Monday, i asked what he thought of it after he had used it for the day and he was really impressed with the quality and way it drove.
It was a diesel SE IIRC but don't know what bhp version the engine was.
