TT

The time is nearly upon us, highlighted today by my colleague off to load his van up and spend two weeks of practice and racing. He runs a sidecar outfit in the top 25% and is the driver and spanner man.

When asked by another colleague if he was excited he said "Hard to say. I hate the crossing over because every year you don't know if you're coming back."  Good luck Howard. See you in a fortnight or so.

First practice starts this Saturday!!

If it's at all possible, I will be there next year. On a big(-gish) bike, preferably of Kawasaki flavour.

Prodrive have prepared a Subaru and are going for the record again.

So, first race today the RST Superbike Race. Michael Dunlop smashed the official lap record from a STANDING START on the very first lap, covering the 37.73 mile circuit in 16:58.439 for an AVERAGE speed of 133.369mph!!

Bear in mind that at a couple of points on the lap the bikes are virtually stopped (Ramsey Hairpin and Governors Dip spring to mind immediately, though I'm sure there are more) kind of puts the top speeds into perspective.

Top speed today through the Sulby straight speed trap was Bruce Anstey on the RCV213 at 192.3mph! That stretch of road is far from smooth even now, so HUGE respect to all.

Second lap at 133.393mph, which included slowing down for the pit-stop, and a new outright lap record!

Finished over 19 seconds ahead of second placed Ian Hutchison, which is a lot for these guys even over a race distance of 226-odd miles!
Martin

Higgins just completed the lap in his Subaru, 126.971 mph average (The previous record was 117.5mph). That's astonishing.

This is a still from the other side. This is Barregarrow, one of the faster corners on the course, and where Guy Martin had a big off a few years ago.

Edited to say: It wasn't Barregarrow of course; it was Ballacarey he had his accident. Probably even faster there!

"look forward to next run!!"

I have the unnerving feeling that this record chasing will end in tears.

It's a car. Not impressed.

Fair enough. This is a CAR forum though, and it is part of the T.T. experience nowadays, as much as the keyboard warriors on the FB TT page would argue about it!!

The point I'm making is that with all that rubber on the road, 600 bhp, DRS it's not as quick as a Superbike. That's what's unimpressive.

I agree it's part of a show and the Eurofighter that does an aerial lap of Silverstone is somewhat quicker than an F1 car but just as irrelevant to the proceedings there.

Mickey D's (second) lap record from Saturday.

Michael Dunlop Superbike Lap Record 4.6.16

Higgins has gone a bit faster today.
