This is not an MX-5. Honest

It's a Fiat 124 Spider.

I like that and the nose harks back to the original Fiat Spider.
As long as it is well finished, that should do very well.
Humphrey The Pug

Very nice and far more attractive than the new MX5.

Has a hint of Maserati from the back and from the front when looking at the side profile, interior looks pretty special too, very nice indeed.

Getting slated on PH.
PG

It almost looks like they've relaunched the old MX-5 with a Fiat badge on. And that's no bad thing.

I think as an Alfa they'd sell far more in Europe and the US, so I still can't work out why they did it as a Fiat.
Martin

That's much, much nicer than the MX5.
BeN

Allow me to be the first dissenter, but I don't quite like that.

Its face looks like it's gaping in shock, with the wide-eyed headlights and large wide grille (mouth). The oversized nose badge doesn't help too.

Im actually going to agree with you there. I like the bonnet line but the headlights look fussy and the grill is too similar to that of the new Mondeo for my liking. I'm glad Fiat are bringing out a small roadster and borrowing the MX5s underpinnings seems a very sensible idea.

Much as I'm an MX5 fan, I don't like the droopy front of the new one (yet, it might grow on me) and I prefer that as a new design.

It does look a lot like the MX5 Mk2 though except the grill, perhaps they just refreshed that design to save a bit of cash.

At least it's the right way round, Jap mechanical and Italian bodywork.

I remember the ill-fated Alfa Arna/Nissan Cherry Europe - Jap bodywork (which at the time was known for rusting nearly as fast as Italian) and Italian mechanicals, a recipe for disaster

Too late I'm afraid, some guy called Ben beat you to it.

lol!!

I like that, and it has a nice interior.
Michael

I like that a lot but I like the MX5 too which looks better in the metal.
Stuntman

On paper and in photos, I prefer the MX-5.  I saw a red one today and the looks really work, IMO.

I look forward to seeing the Fiat version in the metal.

There's no hiding that the dashboard has been lifted straight from the MX5 with a Fiat badge bolted on to the steering wheel.

Indeed, but Fiat seem to have resisted using the plasti-leather Mazda use, hence I like the interior .

That tan and black interior in the Autocar pictures looks a beauty. Worthy of an Alfa......
Chris M Wanted a V-10

Well, I like it.  I think the grille and high-ish front end is dictated by modern crash regulations and to me, it's certainy prettier than the current MX-5.  Interior looks good too.....
Big Blue

That's a gazillion times nicer than the current MX-5. I'm assuming Fiat were not let anywhere near the electrics?
Blarno

Nope.
Grampa

I'm not a huge roadster fan, but I like the look of this - looks better in red than white.

Looks wise, the Mx5 for me has been steadily down hill since the first one with a sudden drop off the cliff with the new one - a neighbour's had one pretty much since launch date and familiarity has done nothing for the looks to grow on me.

Put the tan leather in as well and it will ooze class in a way that the Mazda never could.
Sav

This week's Auocar quotes someone from Mazda saying said they won't introduce a more powerful MX-5. Perhaps this opens up an opportunity for Fiat to make an Abarth 124?
simonp

Much better looking than the squinty Mazda...

US Version

Racing Teatray

It needs lowering onto the wheels to avoid that whole MX-5 gappy wheel arch thang, but otherwise it's nice-looking. I quite like it. But then I like the MX-5 too.

Only the door handles annoy me - they should have nicked the ones from the original MX-5...
Bob Sacamano

I think that looks very good, I'd be quite tempted by that. I also like the new MX-5 but given the choice I'd take the FIAT all day long.

Roadsterstu

It's a "not quite" from me. I've never hidden my like for all things MX-5 but and the Fiat version is a bold move but the interior is just too much MX-5.  The exterior is a bit fussy for my liking too. I will stick with the '5 which I do rather like.
Giant

I think FIAT have done well to make something which looks quite different from the MX5, but it doesn't appeal to me. It looks quite American, in a mini SL type of way.
