The most expensive railway station in the world

I give you: The Oculus
Hit the news headlines a few months back when it opened

However it is still a construction site and you can't get near the outside due to all the building work going on. From street level, you gave to go around the corner and about half a block away, enter via an escalator and underground passageways.

.... and it is vast inside

although in the rush hour, it's busy - very crowded but with almost everyone moving all the time (I didn't want to risk stopping to take photos before 9am, but later in the day presented far better opportunities).  All in all, an interesting experience (and I used the station via the Subway system as well as the PATH trains).

What an amazing building. Has it replaced another station?

It's the new World Trade Centre station.

Fantastic building and good pictures.

Bit too much opinion in that article (well it is the Guardian!) but it was the first one I found, and the "is it worth it" question is an interesting one.

+ another. It's changed a bit since I was last there in 2003. Mind you, that had changed somewhat from when I was there in the last week of August 2001...

I guess you can always ask that question of any building which is anything more than a square box - an interesting one which will never have a right or wrong answer but becomes more difficult to answer in any region with social problems that are made worse by underfunding.

But a lot of the world's iconic landmarks would not be around had people always asked 'is it worth it' - but then would the world be that much a poorer place if we didn't have (for instance) St Paul's Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, the Sydney Opera House...
