The MIL

My MIL has a white 420D XDrive which she liked the look of but has never really gelled with - it's too big and too tricky to get the grandchildren belted up in the back are her main complaints.

My FIL is someone who gets things done instantly.

Yesterday afternoon they went in to town and she is now awaiting delivery of a 5 door Cooper S Auto in melting silver with a black roof, panoramic sunroof and a whole load of other bits. What surprised me was that they managed to squeeze an additional 500 discount over and above the figures I could get online from the likes of Coast to Coast and Broadspeed.

I hope she's happy this time!

I'm still not keen on the way the 5 door looks, but it's nice inside and I'm sure she'll enjoy driving it.

My HR manager has swapped her Evoque Coupe for really well specced 5 door Cooper SD, mainly to reduce fuel costs, but she loves it.  More fun to drive, feels better made, more comfortable etc.  It was a costly swap, S her husband had a look in the adjacent BMW dealer while they were there and has a new 435d GC on order as a result.

Aren't the rear door apertures stupidly small, potentially making reaching in to buckle up grandchildren awkward?

you cant call your mother in law a MIL ,sort of ruins the word MILF.

We had a look at the standard 5dr Cooper but my mother decided getting car seats etc in and out of the back of a Countryman would be much easier, plus a Countryman has a substantially larger boot.

I did try and suggest that the Countryman was a better option but she wasn't having any of it. As far as the in laws are concerned, I provide information but never try to change their minds - it simply isn't worth being the one who gets blamed for a mistake.

Despite being in her 60's now, she still has her looks. My father in law gets a bit p*ssed off with some of their friends where the husbands show more than a healthy interest in my mother in law.

However I take your point!
