The changing spots of my sprocker

When we first got our two dogs some six years ago come April, Riley, our Springer x Cocker spaniel looked like this…..

…. and with Bodie in their cage..

Note the very few number of spots on his torso outside of the big patches.

Today he went for the first of his quarterly clips, and we noticed just how many spots he now has by comparison.

I reckon by the time he's 12, he'll be totally black!!

Cute! They call it 'ticking', amongst Newfoundland breeders at least.

Odd name - any idea why?

I just noticed his tail was wagging when I took that last picture!

No idea, the woman who bred one of ours was Scottish and I was kind of hoping you could shed some light on it.

I dreaded the thought of our springer getting spotty when you mentioned it, Boxer6, but lo and behold, she's spotted up drastically in her first 18 months.

My eldest pooch is called Riley, too.

Harvey has a black spot on his tongue which got larger and larger. I noticed the other day it is starting to fade slightly. Weird.
