Test Sit - 996 Turbo

Had a look at my friends new car at the weekend. Oh my, I'm in love. What you can't see from the photo is the rutted track like "road" to get to another friends house so he wasn't keen on taking it up and down there any more times than necessary so no test ride (and I'm not even sure if he'd let me drive it!)

I'd forgotten since the last time in a 911 how low and small they are from behind the wheel and how this makes them feel special even if the fixtures and fittings aren't that amazing. Having said that the seats and wheel are spot on.

So much want.

Just make sure he has a fire extinguisher handy.

Being serious though,of the 911s I have owned ,I think the 996 turbo was my  favourite.

Really nice looking car, but I don't like the interior on the 996, the older cars are nicer looking inside and I'd rather have a more basic 997.

Agree with you on the special feel from behind the wheel, all Porsches I've sat in are the same.  It's a shame you didn't get to have a ride in it.

I bet it's a monster to drive.  I think those are probably aftermarket wheels, they certainly don't look like what the 996 Turbo came with and they don't look like contemporary options (if there indeed were any).
They are great value for money at the moment.  Like Martin, though, I'd choose a 997 variety over the 996 if I could afford either.

Hopefully you'll get a go in it at some point!

I thought they looked a bit like the current Sport Techno wheel and quick google suggest they may well be a standard wheel.  This is the 996 Sport Techno wheel:

Nice Guy Eddie

Also rather popular on the Cayenne

There is something about the 911, of whatever generation. But, for me, the 997 GT3 is just magnificent. And, having driven one, I was even more smitten

The 996 Turbo must be an animal.

997gt3 most involving car I've ever driven,on smooth roads or track simply mind blowing ,but apparently the 991gt3 is even better and a lot more useable.
Anyway the 996 turbo...great car ,loved it until it caught fire, not a handful at all ,great handling and performance is mega but 0-100 was about 10 seconds so not too fast.the 997 turbo is a beast ,with the 996 you feel like you are driving it,the 997t is basically you press the accelerator and hold on for your life ,in other words I thought the 996t a much better car than the 997t

It looks wonderful with noble manner, I really love  996 turbo if i can afford it.
