Super girly girls car

Now for the embarassing part of my week.  For an explanation as to how I got to this low point, click on the link!

http://themotor.myfastforum.org/sutra251670.php#251670

I think I should get the pictures out of the way first, it's not worth playing a 'guess the car' game and I'd like to get the shame out of the way as quickly as possible!!

I console myself with the fact that it would have been worse, at least it was 'manly grey', rather than 'girly blue' or 'girly green' and I can honestly, hand on heart say, the only time I had the roof down was on my drive and that was just out of curiosity

So, may I present the 206cc 2.0 Allure, with optional JBL HiFi

Allure spec brings leather sports seats, aluminium pack (gearknob and pedals), auto wipers/lights and climate control.  It was the 2.0, so has the same engine as the 206 GTI...... (am I selling it???)

The interior was as I remember the 206, from various loan cars I've had when I last had a Peugeot.  Very cheap and flimsy and way too small for me.  The wheel only goes up and down so when I've got the seat far enough back I can hardly reach it.  The pedal box is way to small and I catch my feet on the steering (whatever the bit lower down is called), which makes it hard to use the pedals.  However, the seats were pretty supportive and comfortable, especially after the ones in the Avensis.

Legroom was non existent with the seat set for me.  I did take the kids out for a quick run around the block and with the passenger seat pushed forwards, my 7 year old could sit in the back, but he wasn't comfortable.

The boot was tiny, not helped by the subwoofer that comes as part of the JBL HiFi pack.  When I pulled the cover over, which you need to do to put the rood down, it rested on my jacket.  So all you can get in the boot is a suit cover, coat and jacket.  My overnight bag and laptop bag had to go on each of the rear 'seats'.

The JBL upgrade was a necessity though, because it drowned out the terrible wind noise and the rattles from the rood and the boot lid.  The was is 3 1/2 years old, but it had only done 30k miles, but felt like it had done 130k.  It was overdue a service and the brakes were on their last legs, as I found out when chasing a colleague through MK.  They pedal went long and they smelt terrible after 7 or 8 roundabouts!!

Compared to the Avensis it felt really quick, helped by very low gearing (20mph/1k rpm in 5th) with plenty of low down torque.  It only took 3 changes into 6th and getting reverse for me to get used to a 5 speed box again.....  It wasn't terrible to drive, it went around corners OK and rode OK.  I don't know what it would be like with the roof down, but I didn't notice any scuttle shake or other wobbly behavior.

MPG for the 2 days / 350 miles, was 33.1 and I was driving it like I stole it, so people didn't see it was me!

The other strange and unnerving thing was getting 'yoofs' pull alongside to get a good look at the lady behind the wheel.  I do hope they were disappointed!!

I caused a huge amount of amusement for my colleagues this week, so it wasn't all bad

Which would you rather, this or the Avensis?

I would actually pick this.
"him"

You have picked the parking spot well, almost anything parked next to a 1007 looks good...

I have to agree about the colour, but they really are hateful cars...

The Avensis would have been preferential for me, no matter how bad it drove at least it just looks dull and uninspired.

Oh, by the way, 20mph/1000 rpm isn't low geared!!!

At least it wasn't a pink Micra C+C.

Cheeky!  That came with my new HP laptop!

I don't think that's on the list thankfully!

This came from the same list as the Passat, the next band down would only get you the 1.6

There were a lot of other cars between the 206 and the Passat as far as I was concerned

My Auntie has a Y-reg 1.6, which she's owned from new.  I never understood how my cousin (6'1") gets in the back until he recently explained it was by sitting across the car with his feet up...!  My Uncle did an airport run for us once and I don't remember the boot being bad, getting two medium-sized suitcases in, but it was a painful journey as my wife was behind me so the seat was as far forward as I could take - my head was rubbing into the windscreen pillar and knees were pushing through the dashboard.

Anyway, Auntie loves it and still think it's a nice looking car.  Like all her and my Uncles Peugeot's (405 and 306) it has been incredibly reliable.

However, the 206 is truly scuppered because the RHD conversion seems to have been undertaken by that fella and his mates in the Indian 206 advert - cobbled doesn't even begin to describe it.

Didn't they also have a lot of issues with the roof not operating correctly?

My Aunt's car had the roof stop mid-motion once; she turned the ignition off, restarted the car and it worked fine.  She does use it often too so if there was a chance of it going pop sometime in the past eight years it would have done it more than once I would have thought!

Can't believe it's eight years old actually, her's being one of the first 1.6's in the country which they had to wait three months for.

I remember when my brother worked for Mitsubishi and we took out his dealerships Colt CZC. It was shockingly girly and with no wind deflector it was unbearable on dual carraigeways but fun nonetheless. I imagine the novelty would wear off reasonably quickly if I had to own one though.

I'm amazed you still have a 206CC on your fleet, it must be getting on a bit by now!
Martin

We run our company cars for 4 years or 120k miles, the 206 was 3.5 years old and had only done 30k miles, so still had some life left!
PhilD

Not sure I'd feel that comfortable driving around in one (especially with the top down) but I do think this is a nice looking little car.

That was a "new keyboard" moment ...

Good god.  You are coming to Prescott aren't you, Martin?  Excellent.

Everybody who has it is probably too embarrassed to drive it.

Allure would have to be one of the least appropriate car names of all time, along with Carisma, and the little gem I saw today - the Daihatsu Applause ...

It's looking a little touch and go due to work, but the 206 is long gone!!
.

You did that last too.  Leave work at work and put the blackberry down man!
Martin

I know, I know

Busy times, which shouldn't be taken for granted these days.  It's supposed to be easier the higher up the slippery pole you climb, but it doesn't.
.

Easier to push the shit down to us lower ranks, yes!!

I was looking forward to seeing pictures of Myrtle with all the other cars too.
Martin

Not at all....well, not really!  The 'lower ranks' do get some shit shoveled their way, but they don't have the accountability!

Who the heck is Myrtle?
.

Patsy = Passat

Myrtle = MINI

Martin

That's a little tenuous!
