Silverstone Classic 2016 (A lot of pics)

The biggest and best selection of static road and race cars you could imagine, access all areas of the circuit, tonnes of live racing, with some old F1 car laps thrown in for good measure. Then, once the racing stops and the sun goes down,  it turns into a mini music festival with live bands (Boomtown Rats Friday, Reef and the Stranglers Saturday) and a piss up til the early hours, before staggering back to your tent.

2016 didn't disappoint:

The only downside?

I've just spent 30 minutes arranging the pics into some sort of order, only for photobucket to decide to put them back to the muddled order they uploaded in   , so sorry about the mish mash order

Martin

Great pics Andy, thanks for sharing.  Some really, really nice cars.  I must do it one year, but it always conflicts with when we take the kids on holiday.
JohnC

Great photos Andy, regardless of the order.

How much money was there tied up in all those cars? That lot would clear the national debt!
Michael

Looks like fun. I'll have to get to this one year.
Nice Guy Eddie

You captured the event very well in those photos. I think I only took about 20 photos in total. What time did you get out of there on Sunday?
Stuntman

Highly impressive, thanks for sharing those with us Andy.
What was the Abarth Zagato thingy?  I like it...

Some other thoughts:

The Ferrari 488 GTB looks quite fussy compared to its predecessor
The LaFerrari is impressive, but less elegant than the Enzo
You would really, really want to have a Maserati badge to justify ordering a Levante over an F-Type, looks-wise
The modern Jaguar sportscars are trying way too hard
I think the Aventador will age well
The NSX has aged well
Twelfth's RS4 looks good
Riviera and Mexico blues don't particularly suit the 991 GT3/RS cars, in my opinion
The 993 RS still looks fantastic
The 987 Cayman S is a prettier and more cohesive design than the 981 Cayman GTS in my opinion, I think it has aged well
franki and I have chosen the best colour for the GT4

Amazing pics Andy, thanks for sharing. I keep saying I'll go to it one year and I really must.

When I saw that photo, I couldn't help thinking that the Cayman GTS really isn't a looker especially in that colour or from that angle. It's strange because I think a client's dark blue metallic one looks the dogs bollocks from any angle.
Stuntman

I think the angle in Andy's photo doesn't do it any favours.  When the 981 Cayman came out, I didn't like it as much as the 987 design but I agree that a GTS generally looks very good.  The 987 is a lot curvier and flows more harmoniously, especially at both the front and rear wing areas.  It  also seems to look a lot smaller, even though it's hardly any smaller at all!

Having sat in a Levante at both Goodwood and Silverstone I really like them. The interior quality is good and you get a great choice of woods and leathers that bizarrely you don't get from Jag.

That GT3 RS looked the muts nuts but then I love any RS in Paint to sample, it'd be lovely to have the only example of a car as the purple and orange everyone has darling.

Having looked at the GTS picture I've worked out what makes it look rubbish, the bidet on the back. Thank god Porsche put the rear wash wipe on the options list.

Similar. Had hoped to go this year but only weekend left to go down to my Dad's in Devon.

Hopefully next year...
Scouse

Great Pics.

Super Tourers look the mutts nuts in a way that current touring cars just don't.
The Escort Cosworth looks special in a way the Focus RS doesn't.

Interesting about the Levante, Ed.  I haven't seen one in the metal yet but certainly it didn't wow me from Andy's photos.

I think that the usual suspects for CTS (PTS) blues on the current GT Pork are a little bit cliched and hackneyed at the moment.  I reckon it would be far cooler to have a 991 GT3 RS in say Sapphire Blue, or another classy/less shouty metallic colour.  I think the GT Silver option suits it rather well and I would choose that one from the standard colour options.

I'm with you on the bidet on Caymans.
