replaced the xc90Well ,I have never worked so hard in replacing a car,Firstly the lack of stock around is incredible,no matter what model I looked at there were serious shortages in stock which made life difficult.
HAving thought long and hard about it I did not want to replace the volvo with another overlarge soggy handling beast ,but wanted an elevated driving position (not for me but for my shortarse wife) ,I started looking at some of the smaller SUV's.I had a quick drive in various machines and found myself taking a suprising liking to the BMW x3.Firstly it drive more like a slightly elevated estate car than a big SUV,and secondly those 6 cylinder engines.
So I plumped for a blue x3 sport with the 3.0 engine .The boot is much lower than the xc90 (an dmuch smaller) so hopefully the dog can jump up without aid.The interior is fine but some of th e plastics are very unBMW like, more like toyota shiny stuff, but the drive really sold it to me.
Although diesel makes more sense ,the bmw 6 cylinder is a joy and with my mileage diesel is not warranted.
I have to say if you told me 1 month ago that I would have done this ,I wouldl have said you're mad.

I drove the X3 with the twin turbo 3.0 litre diesel and was pleasantly surprised with the way it drove. The interior isn't great quality wise and is a model life cycle behind the current range, but I can see how it would appeal.
Not everyones choice admittedly, but that's usually based on looks rather than the way they drive.
What age / spec / mileage is it?

The pre-facelift model looks much better with body coloured bumpers and the Sport seats give the interior a lift.

The steering wheel is pleasingly chunky to look at and the seats look supportive.
I don't mind the X3 all that much, these days.

Not sure what you paid but a guy in the telegraph the other week paid about £20K for a new one - dealer couldn't shift a petrol model at all.

A neighbour who lives two floors above has an X3. It doesn't seem to be used much.

I am deeply uspet about my grandpa being ill and am making some illogical and irrational decisions at the moment.
financially it makes little sense ,but it is a lotmore fun to drive than most of the other SUVs.It will also be easier to park than the volvo.

Money isn't everything Franki and at least you've made a decision that seemed right at the time.
I hope that your grandpa is ok.

Get past the looks and there isn't much wrong with the X3. It does what it's supposed to do.
You've got a great engine too.
Enjoy.
(hope your Grandpa gets better)
