RDQ- Most miles in a day?

What's the most miles you've driven in a day?

I bested my previous record of 600 miles by doing 720 miles on Wednesday/Thursday in our Honda MPV. The 3.5 V6 engine made it a bit more bearable but I was shattered at the end of it.

When I get a test car I can regularly do upwards of 200kms a day, which is a lot in a small island like Singapore. I've also done fairly long road trips overseas though, with a recent one that comes to mind being over 750kms in Thailand.

624 miles on Friday from Charente Martime to home, 14 hours door to door (which included the Eurotunnel which had a small delay). Fine on the day, Saturday I was knackered.
TreVoR

600 miles.  Darlington to Orléans back in 2001.
Twelfth Monkey

To and from the Lakes to see a Withnail screening in situ - less than 400 miles, I would say.  Though strictly speaking, that's within one 24 hr period, not one calendar day.  Otherwise, maybe 300.
Michael

1014miles. Venice to a motorway hotel outside Cambridge - at which point I couldn't go on.
Martin

I did 830 miles from Nantwich to Annecy when I was 18.  The plan was to cross from Dover-Calais on the night (cheap) ferry then sleep in the car before setting off the next morning.  After 45 mins I realised I was never going to sleep so decided to keep going until I needed to stop.  All in my mums BRG MG Montego, so no air con or cruise control.

I've done a few 500-600 mile trips since.

Did some long hops on a fly drive to California a few years ago, and about 650 miles Montpellier to Southern England.

Most I generally do now is 550 or so when I pop up to Aberdeen from Newcastle for the day.

My longest was something very similar, think we did Tamworth to near Niort in the MX-5 years back.

More impressive still that it was in a Fiat Punto Sporting loaded up with my belongings from my time in Italy and my navigator was my ex. Quite frankly any amount of time with her was a challenge.

2100km. During the week of the start of the first Gulf War. From a fishing village in Spain near Almeria to Gevelsberg in NRW, Germany. In a 300E W124. Shared with my step-dad so a bit of a cheat but we stopped for lunch and with fuel and coffee stops we averaged 100kph for a day. My overriding memory of the journey was crossing the border into Germany at stupid o'clock and my step-dad saying to me, who was struggling to keep my eyes open, "I don't want to see the speedo below 200". Fuck me that was a drive.

We drove from New Jersey to Texas when I was 15. That was 5 days long but I wasn't driving and we stopped for my step-dad to have some business meeting on the way.

Brilliant!

I've just done 430 miles on Friday in the new whip across Wales which was an epic drive, not so much the distance but the scenery on A and B roads.

I've done the south of France a few times which is around 700 miles.

Longest distance I've covered has been a trip up to Sellafield when we did some work there a few years back. It's around 380miles. I've also driven to Newcastle from West Sussex which is about 350miles. So no as much as others but of course I also have work to do when I get there so am normally staying overnight making it a 700mile trip overall but spread over 2-3 days.
Twelfth Monkey

Actually, I've done Newcastle and back on the same day, which was over 400 with inadvertent detours.
Tim

I'm not entirely sure what the mileage was but we once did Anstruther in Fife to the Isle of Skye, several laps of Skye (looking at houses) and then home again.
I think we left at about 7:30 am and got home at 3:30am.
All done in the M5.

Oh god I think the longest in a day is Norwich and back; 320 miles, not a patch on you other lot.

Maybe not but the trauma of your initial destination must make up for a lot

I think my longest single-day journey was Minehead - Yeovil - Bridgend - Liverpool.

A touch over 400 miles, but it was made worse by having a flu-type fever starting AND a puncture on the M6 at 22:30. In the dark. What joy.

Probably only around 500 miles according to Google - from rural Wiltshire to Swindon, Perth and on to Dundee
Racing Teatray

I've done a few humdingers in my time being a fairly indefatigable long-distance driver, but the longest single-day trip was from the ferry terminal in Stockholm to London in the GTA at the end of 2008. Together with an old school friend who I collected in St Petersburg, we arrived on the overnight ferry from Finland at 7am on the 23rd December and arrived at my flat in Rotherhithe at about 2am on Christmas Eve. That's 1,176 miles according to Google Maps, but obviously we did share the driving. Then again, it was part of a total journey distance of 2,000 miles, when you consider that I'd driven from Moscow to St Pete's on the 21st, and from St Pete's to Turku on the 22nd, much of which was in blizzard conditions.

In terms of non-shared drives, East London to the west of Islay overnight in the Z1 in 2006 is the longest drive I've done on my own in the UK – that was 560 miles. The longest drive on my own anywhere is I think probably London-Milan, which I've done in a day many times in various cars and clocks in at around 800 miles, just edging Moscow to Helsinki, and Antwerp to Torun, which were both around 700 miles (GTA again, on the Moscow run).

Sounds about right although the prospect of hitting Dartford Crossing at 6pm on a Friday was pretty grim, thankfully we went across to the A2 and around the back of Bluewater to avoid the M25.
Roadsterstu

I forgot the little trip to Paris and back in 21 hours, last summer, in my mate's van. That was 780-odd miles, although we shared the driving.
Stuntman

Nothing like as many as some of you, but a couple of years ago I drove 190 miles to work, did 9 hours work, and then drove 190 miles home.
Eff One

861 miles from Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire to Cotignac in the south of France, via the Dover-Calais ferry. That took about 20 hours including the ferry and the biggest traffic jam I've ever seen (5 hours/55km on the A7 around Valence).

I did it on my own, in a Cinquecento Sporting.
Big Blue

Ooh. Cotignac is nice; D557 and near my mum in Salernes. I've done that journey a gazillion times.
DetmoldDick

937 miles from Roses (Girona) to home in Detmold. Myself, the wife and her adult daughters in an Alfa 147.
Edited to add:
Longest journey in a day with shared drivers was the 1358 miles from Suffield training center (near Medicine Hat, Alberta) to Flagstaff in Arizona. We went to see Nigel Mansell in his 1st Indycar oval race in Phoenix. Unfortunately, when we got there he had already put his car backwards through the wall.

This is what we all missed:

Similar, quite a few long hops on fly drives, and about 600 miles each year from home to just south of St. Jean de Monts when we used to holiday in France.

Used to do loads of driving for business so a 400 mile  or so return trip wasn't unknown, longest generally was to Wihtehaven in Cumbria (600 miles) or Plymouth (500 miles).
