Plaything for Mrs Racing...

Really quite tempted: http://www.kgfclassiccars.co.uk/details.php?cid=466

For those who don't know/remember, we had a light blue Series 2 Alfa Spider as our wedding car and my wife has held a candle for them ever since.
Martin

Aren't you her play thing?

Seriously...that's a lovely idea.
Big Blue

Nice. I think most people like these as big toys.
Bob Sacamano

would have to be red, surely?

I love the idea I'm just not struck on the white modern bumpers on an old design.
Racing Teatray

I always liked the Series 4 cars myself. Though ideally it would be dark metallic red. With that one, it's mostly the turn-key immaculate-ness of it that appeals.

My wife's 500 reaches the end of its 3 year PCP this autumn so her thoughts have already turned to "what next". Her latest wheeze was that we get rid of both cars and replace hers with a 500X, which she likes the idea and look of, and replace mine with something small and sporty like a (second-hand) Boxster.
JohnC

I've always liked the Alfa Spider. Think it might need a garage though, otherwise it won't stay pristine for long.

Sounds like an even better plan.  Ideally with something other than a 500X, but it could be worse (500L).
Racing Teatray

To be honest, I don't mind the 500X. It's relatively inexpensive, quite nice inside and out from the little I've seen and the reviews seem generally positive. We're off skiing later this month for a few days and Avis have promised a 500X "or similar", so hopefully we will get a chance to find out.
Martin

I don't think it looks that bad and iirc you can get one with reasonable performance, unlike a lot of the competition.
Roadrunner

Looks good, but can't you talk her into a Z1?
Frank Bullitt

The Spider is nice but I've never really warmed to the S4 on the same way as, perhaps, a boat-tail. It's the 80's plastic bumpers that are wrong (to me).

The 500X is a really decent looking vehicle inside and out, plus you can get the 1.4 blown unit which gives it a bit of poke too.

Immaculate Spider S4? 10k

Tidy Z1? 25k.

Can't even talk myself into a Z1 at that price differential!

A perfectly white one (as per those pics) with matching shoes and handbag.
PG

That has to be red. Definitely not white.

That's a good plan. A 500X came past me on the motorway last week (before anybody says anything we were in slow moving traffic...) and I really liked it. It seems a much better execution of the "500" look than the awful 500L. And with the 1.4 Turbo, a pretty good drive too for that kind of car.
Racing Teatray

What's all this chat about white? The one I linked to is silver?
Big Blue

It looks very white on my screen
Scouse

Well, it is listed as 'Grigio Chiaro' whcih translates as 'Light Grey' according to google, but it definitely looks white on the screen.

Or tart's handbag..
Bob Sacamano

I suppose, if I squint, it could be silver.
Martin

White on my screen too
boc70

Is it like that black and blue dress thing...?

(I thought it was white to start, although playing the video disabuses one of that notion - I suspect the white background is playing tricks)
Bob Sacamano

As long as the stillettos match I suppose it doesn't matter.
Roadrunner

Looked white at first glance to me, then I realised it was silver.

oh yeah, very silver and very lovely!
JohnC

Love the gearstick - looks like someone has broken it off and stuck it in a cubby hole.
Chris M Wanted a V-10

I'd have a word with Bell & Colvill first; they used to import Alfa Spiders for a while; can't remember if they also offered RHD conversions

LHD doesn't bother either me or my wife who both drove LHD cars around London for years. My wife drove here from Italy in a Saxo!

Not really an issue in London. When I had the 190 it was great for ogling the girls on the pavement on the King's Road. We had this "admiring not ogling" conversation before in another thread didn't we?

I'll get me coat........

LHD also cooler and ogling, sorry admiring is allowed (possibly mandated) on the continent.

Although you'd need an RHD car for optimal ogling there.

The point is the initial reaction here of "fuck off dirty pervert ogler" will quickly be replaced by "ah, it's left hand drive so he must be foreign and admiring me" **blush blush look coy flick hair stick boobs out**

So you'll get Jeep Cherokee then

The car plan does sound a good one. Our best fleet was the FRV and the 9-3 Convertible in many ways.

I plan to use the MX5 more this summer now it's been welded.

Funnily enough we had a friend around for tea this afternoon who turned up in his mint red 1989 Alfa Spider S4, which he has had for 20 years (he's only the second owner). It was really very pretty. So naturally, I had to show him this one and he thought it looked remarkably good value. Wife is almost convinced save for the fact that she thinks a third car is unjustifiable at the moment (and in general).

3 between 2 of you is unjustifiable?

You have spoken to her of Stunters, I presume?
