Star69

Welcome Jack. Good to see the SportKa numbers increasing on the forum, we'll soon outnumber those pesky BMWs and Alfas. ..

Oh, and Skyhook - it's not often my taste is described as excellent, but I have to agree!

Zetec

Thanks very much Skyhook!
If there is any confusion about my name and a car which doesn't have a Zetec engine in it that is because I joined this forum a while a go when I did have a zetec engined car![/img]
Big TC

I've never driven a SportKa - I have driven a boggo 1.25 litre version in the past, and thought it was largely utterly forgettable (I think, as i've mostly forgotten it).

As there are now 3 SportKa's on these here fora, they must be LOADS better than the bread and butter version????

Can't stand the looks, either, so wouldn't be seen dead in one. I know a car's shape is a subjective thing, and each to his own, etc, etc. Don't mean to offend!

Anyhoo, welcome to our new members - and another one from Scotland, I notice!
Skyhook

You're lucky I'm not by nature a man who likes an arguement...

Zetec

The whole suspension/steering is heavily reworked compared to the standard version.  My fiance drives the asthmatic pushrod engined Ka and I would agree about it being quite forgettable.  The weighting and feedback of the steering in mine is much better I would say and although the higher power output does help things considerably I think another 20-30 bhp would make things much more interesting!
Nice to meet you TC
kraftwerk

Another new member (well, from Dec 06... don't all rush at once.) Welcome, Zetec (where's that name from?) Post often.
M.

Welcome etc. Any other lurkers ready to delurk?
PR

Welcome along.

4 Alfa GTAs,

3 SportKas

2 325ti Sports

What a collection of cars we're gathering here!

Well.... nine out of ten ain't bad...
M.

3 325's. If you're going to be body style specific there are only 3 GTA saloons and one of those is still on a ship.
DaveGibson

I think the Lexus IS 250 SE automatics probably have more total months of membership than other models.
Jasper

Welcome Zetec.

Does that mean Fords out number BMW's now?
PR

I seem to recall a poll on the old Autocar forum asking which cars people would have, money no object, and Ford coming out on top. Granted, it probably included a lot of Ford GTs, but even so!

How rude!  Eat my Diesel Soot, weenie!
Big TC

I've now got 2 diesel cars - I wonder what the ratio between petrol/diesel is on the forum now?

(The Passat doesn't count, as that's for non-public-road work....)
Spyder

Should ba petrolhead thats got a diesel still be called a petrolhead?
Big TC

Hhhmmm, an interesting point. Perhaps we should be known as 'Motorheads'? What do you think?
Spyder

I'm sure Blarno might have something to say about
using 'Motorheads'.
PR

What about Pistonheads?

Oh, hang on...

TimR - was that taken this year? Lucky to get it, if so!

marcg - looks like a happy wee boy you've got there. I also noticed - another Mac user?!?!

Giugiaro3600 - welcome. And, what ^^^ said!
Matt

Welcome Guigiaro.
BeN

Hello Giugario!

Never thought I'd say that in my life...
Guest

Yup. I probably should have come up with something a little more creative,  but it seems I'm suffering a little bit of "dead brain" syndrome today. Anyway, thank all for the kind welcome.....
Gurney

Welcome Giugiaro, and you are the 200th forumer (if such a word exists).
Blarno

Welcome.
Guest

Brilliant! I suppose I can scratch that of my achievements list..........
marcg

Welcome! Posts - 4? Keep working at it!

Interesting location, btw - any photos?

I've been thinking that my laptop probably needs updating (it's a 2006 Acer Ferrari !!) and given that I can't find a car I want to buy, thought about getting a Macbook - mainly as I can't really justify a MacAir price-wise, and the Macbook Pro doesn't seem to get quite such good reviews.

I've never used a Mac before, ever, but I was contemplating popping in to the Apple store in Glasgow sometime soon, as they provide hands-on experience and free tutorials. Got to be worth a look, anyway.
marcg

It'll take you about ten minutes to figure out how it all works (and most of that is unlearning the convoluted procedures you've used with a PC) then you'll be away! Someone posted the scooter vs Kawa Ninja pic last week. More realistic is mk3 mx5 vs old souped-up TVR. Yes, the mx5 costs a lot more and goes slower. But going anywhere is a pleasure due to the handling (and it's only slow as compared to the silly stats on the TVR), plus you get there since it didn't break on the way.

Yeah, where is Centurion? I grew up in Johannesburg.

(goes and looks it up)

Ah. Known to me as Verwoerdburg. I can't keep up with all the name changes over there. Sterkfontein Caves is nearby, yes? That was a typical school day trip in the 80s. I lived in Midrand for 10 years from '82 to '92.
D.

And a big welcome from me too, Giugiaro.  Don't forget to check out the website. (See below!)

Oh...and how did you find us?
Guest

To answer a few questions:

Eff One- I live in Lyttleton, Centurion. Just of the N14 highway between Pretoria and Johannesburg. And Midrand is expanding like a city on its own!

Dan- Lived in the UK for 6 years (2001-2007) and was an Autocar subscriber for most of those years. Got the link to this site on the Autocar forum a year and a half ago.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Hi Giugiaro - welcome aboard. Of course, a picture of your car is required, preferably in some dramatic South African location ...
Guest

Unfortunately I don't even have simple pic of my car, but I believe something can be arranged.......

It was taken in early May sometime.

I'm another Mac user - an iBook G4.

It's 1000 times quicker at starting up and loading the web than Windows stuff but I miss simple things like Excel - although you can buy that stuff for the Mac it costs a fortune.

Im Graham, 20 years old from Coventry (almost 21).  Student at University of Teesside.  Introduced to the forum by Andrew (AndyC).  I drive an old mans car, a mint green Honda Jazz that was passed on to me from my Grandad (although it is the 'sport' version!).  I have briefly met Colin and Piers at the Renault World Series event at Silverstone.  I enjoy watching motor racing but not so much into how cars work or modifying them.  Having said that I would love a fast car, just cant afford one.  Enjoy things like karting, sports and one of my favourite hobbies is photography.

Here is a picture of me and my girlfriend taken last year in Florida:
BeN

Hey, a Honda Jazz is a great car! Your Grandad has taste. Mint green too.

Welcome Graham.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Hi Graham, welcome aboard - glad Andy's spread the word a bit. Bet you're glad the Jazz isn't that metallic pink some of them are ...
M.

Welcome Graham. What do you study at Teesside? I went to a lecture by Marek Reichmann there a few months ago - he studied there and is now design head for Aston Martin so it can't be too bad!
grahamtearne

Haha yeah if it were pink I'd be slightly embarrassed.  I actually love my car though.  Excellent little car in my opinion.  Especially for driving to and from University.  Would love a second car though for me pleasure driving.  Miss having a manual at times but most of the time I love the ease of the Auto for city driving and such.
grahamtearne

Cheers for the welcomes guys.

I study Digital Visual Effects.  Special effects for TV and film.  Its pretty good and should start getting more interesting this year.  Starting projects like blowing things up and having planes or cars crash into things.
Twelfth Monkey

Tssk.  Students didn't go on hols to Florida when I were a lad.  Grumble, mutter....
Big TC

Welcome Graham. Any friend of Andy's a friend of ours. Get posting on the photography forum!
Blarno

Welcome, Graham. Nowt wrong with a Jazz, my dad has one and I really like it.

Hello Graham.

My in laws had the same model of Jazz as you (except in pale blue metallic) and I was always annoyed they never let me have a shot - mind you I did get to drive their TR6.
Star69

Isn't a Jazz Sport a contradiction? Especially an automatic!

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

Haha yeh you would think so.  Its a Jazz SE Sport to be precise in automatic lol.  Does have manual controls on the steering wheel however.
DradusContact

Hi, and welcome.
PR

Welcome along Graham! You are clearly unusual in that you have actually met fellow forum people before joining the forum yourself!

I shall watch out for green Honda Jazz Sport automatics with keener interest next time I am anywhere near Coventry.
Rodge

Welcome to the forum.
SpecB

Welcome.  I too quite like the Honda Jazz.
Sav

Welcome grahamtearne (a little late I know!)

Pip - spill the beans about 'your' Merc....
Blarno

^^You realise he is probably going to hate you for posting that?

Blarno

I'm going to embarrass the hell out of Phoebe. Especially with my dancing...
Big TC

I'm just gettting my own back - see the 'Worst Jobs' thread.....!
Big TC

Lest Pip gets upset at me posting that pic of him (he wont), this is one he took of me on the same day....the git.

Pip II

I put oil on to make it shine more, and it seems to have worked!

P.S. Thats a bad picture of me, I look better with straight hair
Nelson

don't think I have done one of these, so given that I have a new car, now's a very good time to rectify that.

I'm Duncan, 36, live in Rugby with my fiancee Julie and our cat Smirnoff. I'm a fleet administrator and delivery driver (collect new and used cars around the country) for the local Vauxhall dealer. I've previously worked in the banking industry, 12 years for NatWest, was working as a Small Business Manager until I resigned in 2001 and went and lived in Paris for the year with Julie.

Julie and I are expecting our first child in March 2009 and we are also getting married in September next year too.

I was previously known on here as Cooper Man, as Julie and I owned a 2004 Mini Cooper, which we bought new in 2004, gave us 4 years impecable service, however, with the impending arrival of the baby we needed more practical wheels and have only recently sold the Mini and bought a Ford Mondeo Titanium X 2.0 TDCi 2005 (55) in Magnum Grey.

So, here I am, with Julie and a photo of Nelson (the new name for the car, as in Nelson Mondeo-yeah, I know, very tenuous, but I like it !!) that I took earlier today.

Full MotorForum style review of Nelson being penned this week.

not parked outside my house, my house is less pikey !!

Rodge

And it's a good steer too. Nice car.
