Welcome, guys.

Can I say thank you for the welcomes! I'm having withdrawal symptoms from having sold the Golf, so i may fling a few pics up in your Cars for posterity.

New member - Darth Balls

Hi

I've just joined here as part of the most recent wave of immigrants from the 'other place'. I used to be Doc-B but I've turned to the Dark Side.

Seems a bit more friendly around here, and I only join forums for the banter.

Posting your pic seems to be the done thing so this are my favourite ever pictures of myself kidding around at my photography class. The women who took these are way better at photography than me though!

Let me know if these images don't work - DB
BeN

Yeah they don't work.

Welcome by the way. We're really on a roll now.

Damn - usually they do - any suggestions - is it because they are on Flickr?

Yeah Dradus Contact put a link in to this joint in his 'farewell to Autocar' post.
M.

Loose the ?v=0 off the end and they'll work just fine.
Welcome, by the way.

Colin

Yet more new members........ things are definitely looking up!
Max Headroom

Can I say chaps it was me that posted the link here on autocar, Dradus didn't know it as he's never been here before. He hopped over on my recommendation.

It just goes to show how many people feel let down by the autocar forum.

Still all the more fun over here!

happy days hopefully.

alright alright just take away my little moment in the sun why dont you......................

Cheers Alan - £31.50 from the Next Clearance Store! The shirt I'm wearing in the pic cost more.

Bloody bargain of the century IMO

I'm Sorry Mat. I didn't realise i was shadowing youre moment in the sun!

Seriously though, you got here before me. I am pleased you've seen enough here to make you join up and give it a whirl. Better than living with the tumbleweeds at the lite forum over the way!

Alastair, although you didn't post anything, have you forgotten that you registered on this site as Porcorosso on 5/1/2007?
Stuntman

That was still 14 days later than the cool kids though
Max Headroom

absolutley correct stuntman. however at the time i was deep in personal activities and in a fit of pique decided to wait for autocar to get up and running. I am man enough to make mistakes.

No Dave, I haven't forgotten, I tried to use it before but its not working, probably because i never used it! Besides its time to move on and Max is a man of my time, although i think i've aged a bit better than he has.

Welcome into the light!

Oops it was a spelling mistake, I meant to write 'Volvas Make Me Horny' (The Volva was a Norse "cunning woman," or Shaman (there were male volvas, but these were fewer). The volvas originated as female seers/shamans, but evolved into magicians for hire who would often travel from place to place.)

Alwyas getting my vowels mixed up...

Well, you have a very long....name.

Autocar exodus

Boys,

I'd like to claim asylum too please?

Nice environment - definately more condusive to a bit of banter..!!

Don't know what to say really about t'other place - shocked at how quickly it went down hill and readily admit I may have contributed to that by arguing the toss over stuff that was clearly focused around an agenda no-one was going to admit to.

It's still going on - a guy called Scamper is testing the waters and not getting anywhere with the usual suspects. Autocar could be empty by the end of next month if it carrys on the way it's been going lately.

Oh, you've all been slagged off too by JJ/James Read or whatever he's been calling himself this week - he thinks we are all part of a global conspiracy to dominate the world. I could be wrong - no dramas - but are these two the same person?

He might have a point on the world domination thing..........

I'm a lover - not a fighter...so time to rock out with our c*cks out...

I've been wanting to say that for a bout 4 days but could think of the right place to insert the comment.

Please forgive me.
D.

I think we'll need a better marketing manager before TheMotor will take over the world!

Welcome Scrummy, it's great to see so many new faces (well..names) here.
Sav

I'll take that job!

I guarentee it or your money back.

Great to see scummy here.  You will have to revive 'ASk' scummy', the all purphose answer service to anything you might want to know.

"You sunk my battleship" how can i fit that into a post, thats not about battleships or navy tactics?
Stuntman

Dradus - it could be code for some sexual practice - in the style of Mr Cholmondeley-Warner off Harry Enfield's show:

"Has the train arrived in Paddington dear?"
"No, it's stuck in Coventry.  Ouch!"

And so...

"I've just launched my torpedo"
"You sunk my battleship.  Ouch!"
Max Headroom

...or 'Good God Captain! You've sunk your battleship in MY harbour!'
Parm

I appear to have missed this latest exodus from Autocar. Welcome to all. I hope you enjoy, what is quite possibly, the best motoring forum on the web.

Hello mate - good to be here.

It gets worse in the other place - I'm of the view that it has to be a wind up - no-one can be that dogmatic and rude.

Opinions?

I saw that - I've bugged out because it was all getting a bit weird for me. Multiple ID's - out of context comments and bizarre claims of fact and never EVER an answer to a question.

I'm intrigued but not enough to go into it any further.

Hope you are well anyway Spec B?

Not bad at all thanks and just trying to find my way around here!

I just thought I'd say hi and welcome to all of you new guys.   I hope that you all stick around.

Unlike the scarlett pimpernell, I'm back.

Chris, 30 years old and originally from Yorkshire but now living in Cambridgeshire.  Married to Marie (for nearly 3 years), no kids, pets or anything else that depends on us.  I work as an Estates Manager for an NHS Trust, am a Building Surveyor by background and currently doing a masters.

Me looking like a Spiv while holding a hen.  Of course.

Pkh72

Get your eye drops ready 'cause this will hurt...........

:-(

PKH - nice to put a face to a name.

Chris - it's good to see you back.
BeN

Good to see you back Chris.
Mark

Welcome to the new people.

Pkh72 - is that Whitby?
Pkh72

Mark - Yep, that is Whitby, at the end of June last year when by rights i shouldn't have needed a coat!
One of the best things about visiting that neck of the woods is the drive to/from pickering, i love that road.
PR

I wouldn't have recognised that as Whitby - whereabouts is that where you are standing?

I agree totally about that cracking road over the Moors from Pickering. When I was small I used to love coming round the hairpin bend at High Horcum and seeing 'The White Balls' arranged eerily on Fylingdale Moor. I still mourn their replacement by that dull triangular thing.

While I'm on the subject, I also abhor the transformation of the previously delightful village of Goathland into a monument of Heartbeat tat. I last drove through it a few years ago and was aghast at what I found. The quiet and picturesque place I remembered, with the wide grass verges and rows of stout cottages had become a hideous film set, full of appalling grockels. I intend never to return.
Pkh72

It's near the variety club/town hall(?) type building not far from the 2 tusks up the steps from the life boat station.
PR

Okay, I think I know where you mean.

I like Whitby. Great fish and chips!
Frank Bullitt

Sorry to be a gimp, but are you sure that is Whitby pkh72?

The only buildings (and road) at low-level on the front are just where the estuary meets the sea, where the Khyber pass drops down to low-level along Pier Road (I think that's what it's called, the one with the former Lifeboat station on), and these are on the North side of the estuary.

The picture appears to be taken across the estuary (South to North) but it's not wide enough and there is no parking on the South side (or road, save for a small access road to cottages).

It's clearly the North East Coast, and I thought it could be Sandsend, although I'm not sure now.

I'm confused - impressive considering I grew up a few miles away!

The roads over the moors are impressive, the car-mags always rave about the road from Castleton to the Moor Road (A171).  My personal favourite is the A169 that goes through Sleights and past Fylingdales - the 15 miles this takes you into Thornton-le-dale (via Dalby) are, frankly, pure pleasure.
M.

It is Whitby, that's the carpark near the Whale jaw bones and the picture is looking down the beach with Sandsend just out of shot - check Google Earth!

Mark

Definitely Whitby - I had to park pretty much where Pkh72 is standing last year. I did need his confirmation though.
PR

I was confusedly looking at Google Maps as well, trying to spot that car park. I couldn't work out where it would be as it looks like it's right down at beach level but Michael's explanation looks convincing enough!

That's the place, it's not far from Arnold Palmers crazy golf   , we were staying at a B & B on Argyle Road. The photo is taken with my back to Argyle Road and the others halfs back towards the harbour.

What sort of thing do you do for the NHS?

I used to work in NHS Forth Valley HQ.

Are you from the Stirlingshire area or is that just where you go to drive without lights?

Hi all, I'm Aminu - when you think of Amino Acid, think of me...or vice versa ;-)

Yesterday I met Colin, the Forum's Roving Reporter, and after neither of us could identify the model of a car (Rolls Royce 'erm') I saw on the weekend, he invited me to join the forum and post images of the car here to see how quick one of you can match a model (along with any other details) to it! Let the timer begin...

About me, I live in Luton...but spend most of my time in London...and other parts of the UK as work demands! Work as an IT Specialist, specialising in Lotus software. As with most of you, I love cars! Fom an early age I flirted with the best of them...more to follow in my posts! Hi my names Jack.  I read this forum everyday all day like I'm sure many of you do also.  Not sure how much time I will have to post anything constructive but I will try my best!  I'm currently at University studying Business Information Systems and Management.  I'm 19 years old and currently drive a Ford Sportka.
I've tried a couple of times to post a picture but it seems it's just not happening!
