Nissan GT-R passenger ride

One of my mates hired a brand new GT-R for a few days and kindly took me out for a run in it.


Back to the Nissan.
Initial thoughts were surprise that the ride was quite comfy being less harsh than the 370 and also that the interior was of a better standard than I was expecting although not in the same league as the Germans.
We drove a few miles through town and onto a dual carriageway with little chance to stretch its legs.

Then we went onto a main road that was quieter and, well, Holy Shit that thing is fast!!
Even in top gear from, say, 50 it would easily overtake a line of cars on a fairly short straight reaching speeds that I probably can't say on a public forum.

Any short straight between corners is an overtaking opportunity and the acceleration in the right gear from 50 ish is phenomenal.
At one point we overtook a couple of cars on a straight and reached an even higher speed in just a few hundred yards.

We also discovered that even on a road you know this car changes everything with the result that we had a fairly lengthy airborne moment  

Cornering wasn't an issue, this thing just grips and goes, similarly the brakes (carbon ceramics) are well up to the job of booting the car along a main road.

I wasn't particularly comforted when my mate declared that "this car is too fast for my brain"!

I'll just mention at this point that he currently has an RS6 with a new RS6 Performance on order, he's previously had a V10 RS6 and a 997 Turbo.

To summarise then, in my opinion the car is probably too fast to properly enjoy on the road.
I think you'd be forever worrying about your speed as it wasn't always clear just how fast you were going and you'd be extremely limited I opportunities to enjoy all the performance for more than a few seconds without fearing for your licence.

I love them,they really are not how a lot of people perceive them to be.
Was this the latest model year with the vastly improved interior ?

The good thing is that familiarity starts to speed the brain up and it soon becomes the norm.

Yeah it was a 66 plate - the interior wasn't too bad at all, the dash and binnacle were covered with leather.

The idea of running a GTR is incredibly appealing to any right minded petrol head but I think your limited experience is enough to realise that in reality you'd probably need to keep a supply of spare pants in the car!

There's no doubt it's an amazing bit of engineering on Nissans part to have produced such a devastatingly quick point to point car and by the sounds of it the interior upgrades have added a bit of the finesse it has arguably lacked over the German performance cars.

I bad a passenger ride at Bruntingthorpe in one about 6 years ago. It was very, very quick but it left me cold. It didn't excite in the same way the 997 GT3 had earlier that same day. I  a way it felt a bit too clever and a bit clinical.

I can admire the GTR, but something's missing on the 'want one' front.
