New Ibiza

Looks like a mini version of the Leon, which is predictable, but not a bad thing in my opinion.

That looks great

Shitroen ..  this is how to design a modern supermini
Frank Bullitt

Like that, hope the interior quality is better than the current car but it looks promising in the pictures

I think I would need a Leon and that side-by-side to spot the differences!!

Agreed it's no bad thing in isolation - the design is attractive.

Not sure about the "rose gold" interior trim...

WTF!?

Moonboots one assumes...
TreVoR

Really?  Jesus.
Blarno

Handbags more like.

I'm not suggesting that we all get along and agree with everyone else's views, but getting one's knickers in a twist over someone else's opinion of a car is daft.

No one has called me out for disliking VWs with a passion. Because they'll get fucked off if they did - if you don't like my opinion, it's tough shit, I'm not changing it. Just ignore it and move on.

Anyway. New Ibiza:

It's a Leon x 0.75.
Bob Sacamano

It's just a bit..dull. I like superminis to have a few quirks, be a bit different, I don't really want them to be just scaled down versions of their larger siblings. The Italians and the French seem to understand this best.
PhilD

Ha, I actually thought that was the new Leon. Has that not been shown today? I also couldn't tell you what the last Ibiza is like. There is a place in the market for  VW dullness but why do all their brands now have to be afflicted?  Seat and Skoda used to offer something a bit different.

I'm pretty sure we do all the time Blarno, only a little bit more subtly or jokingly as we know you'll go off on one!
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

It looks good, but I'm sad there's no 3-door, because that might mean there'll be no replacement for the delectable Leon 3-door either
Blarno

They'll just hide the rear door handles because it's still 1996.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Fuck, I hate it when they do that. It's like coming to double doors in a corridor, and one has a lever handle by your knee, the other has a pull handle above your head. Or the Nissan GT-R dash vents before the latest facelift.

See also Stuntman, asymetric number plates ...
PhilD

What's wrong with hidden door handles ?
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

That only the rear door handles are hidden. Either hide both, or neither!
Blarno

Hiding door handles serves only to make a 5 door car look like a 3 door car when they should have just made a 3 door car.

I'm looking at you, current Renault Clio.
PhilD

What if I want a 5 door that looks like a 3 door? whats wrong with that?
PhilD

Oh and the Clio just shrugged its shoulders and told you to 'peez off' Blarno.
Blarno

PhilD wrote:

Because a 5 door car can never properly look like a 3 door - the B pillar is too far forward. It ends up looking like what it is -  a 5 door car with hidden door handles.
Blarno

And the Clio can lick my love pump, the slimy garlic chewing surrender monkey.

You're just annoyed because you can't find the door handle.
Blarno

I have. Hiding the door handles will only fool the stupid or those who want to be fooled.

What you have to remember is FB doesn't like anyone who dares to give a different opinion to him.  It's his pompous, self-righteous way, or no way.   That's been proven on here many times - (just read the recent Trump thread!)
Michael

That looks exactly like a Leon.

Surely moon-pumps for a Citroen? Needs to be something pneumatic in there. They'd probably break though.

No. because I can plainly see the shutline of the door that supposedly isn't there ...

That's what frustrates you the most, you know there's a door there but you just can't open the damn thing.

Anyway, door handles are old fashioned and a carbuncle so the sooner they are gone the better.
Nelson

that's a very attractive, grown up design, that's hit the desirable scale high up too. Inside looks great, can't help noticing there is a lot of plastic trim to the left of the steering wheel but that aside choosing a supermini has just got tougher. Shows the Polo needs refreshing badly in my opinion now

For what it's worth I really like the design of the C3, attractive without being too cutesy.
BeN

Now now, everyone play nice. It's just a Seat after all.

Everything under the sun. A car door should wear its handle with pride.  Lazy designers who cannot design a decent handle should be fired
Michael

I don't have a problem with door handles relocated to enhance the lines of a car. My 156 had them and that was perhaps the most attractive saloon car ever made. They only ever confused my jet lagged sister when I collected her and her friend from Heathrow at 6am after they'd been travelling.
Bob Sacamano

Door handles and mirrors are not required on modern cars and I would expect them to disappear as manufacturers continue to try and reduce drag further.
BeN

How would you open the door then? Magic?!
Giant

I think its a case of legislation needing to catch up with technology. I'm pretty sure surface mounted handles are required, hence why hidden handles like on Pug 106s disappeared.

The Ibiza is entirely predictable and boring, mini Leon. Meanwhile I've started seeing C3s and think they look utterly fantastic.

Probably no need to worry - the UK market will probably get a choice of black with white headlining or black with black headlining, depending on 'Cupraness'...

You calling my pint a slag?
PG

OK which is which? Don't get me wrong, they're both good designs and I like them. But are they not just a bit too, well, the same? SEAT seem to have taken the same design course as everyone else, where brand identity means that everything has to look the same or nearly the same.

boc70

Maybe they were too busy designing the Ateca and forgot?
Tim

They're part of the VW Group so they're just following that lead - design one car and enlarge/shrink as required.

Leon looks ok, so by definition the Ibiza does but if I ever see one I'll still feel it a missed opportunity to try something a little different.

They are even more similar than I realised! Have any other 'little n large' models ever looked so alike?

Nope, purely aesthetic - I see two doors, I want to see two handles in more or less the same place

PhilD wrote:

Exactly - hide all of them - front door handles in B pillar would be perfect

Is this so your neighbours can't tell you've had to downsize at the end of your lease?
Grampa

When this one came out, it looked really clean, sharp and well proportioned, especially in its day - I don't think they've done one that looks as good since
http://www.classic-car.tv/wp-cont...Ibiza-1st-generation-1024x565.jpg

This new one is OK, but nothing more - none of the current seat range has me wanting to rush over to the show room to take a closer look.
TreVoR

Really?!  It was garbage as a car. The one after it moved the game on a huge amount and put SEAT in the mainstream along with the first Leon.
Blarno

The second gen Ibiza was just a Polo with a flamenco skirt on.
Giant

Blarno wrote:

Better than a FIAT Strada in flemenco skirt which the first one was!
Humphrey The Pug

I thought SEAT were to be used by VAG as the cool brand, this new Ibiza is certainly a good looking car, however it is too "mature" looking for me for the sector that the Ibiza currently occupies; whilst I'm not a fan of the current Ibiza styling I can see its appeal to younger people and according to our SEAT dealership, many are sold to younger people; more so than older, this new one could put the younger lot off.
