New Evo Mag

Anyone else got their copy yet? I'll desist from talking about the contents unless people have!

The issue loks good but I can't work out how Aston can charge £1.2M for the 1-77 when its just an uglier verion of everything else they have on sale.

Its a bit of a convertibles special this month. They must be expecting the sun to come out.
D.

Got mine.

Yep - convertible frenzy....and a feature on the Raleigh Chopper! Only managed to get a Raleigh Chipper (the one below age-wise)
Long-termers was the most interesting bit this month for me....
ALF

Yes, got mine. From what I've read so far, the new Z4 looks to be a crushing disappointment to the likes of us, and despite the 4.5 star rating the new Golf GTi seems to be a mildly warmed-over version of the last one. The test seemed fragmented, getting highly excited about one corner only, but little leapt out as "driver's car". Another hot hatch with a dull engine and huge levels of grip one will rarely reach is not what we need.

The sporty versions of the Megane coupe, on the other hand, look amazing  - and they've kepy a real LSD. Could be good...
Rodge

Not alot in it this month. I enjoyed the Chopper story, but they missed the bit about the crushed nuts on the gear stick.

Choppers were shit...  Grifters were much better!

Perhaps they should do a "face-off" in the next issue?

Another photo-chop in the Mk6 Golf Story I thought... the "exterior" in that full page cockpit shot looks a little suspect IMO.

I had a red raleigh grifter, if i remember correctly it had 3 forward gears and about 28 slips!

Don't you mean "neutral" between 2nd and 3rd gear?
Apex clipper

The knowledge.

Have a look at the Caparo T1's times...

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Mis-print?

Yes and I had a purple chopper, scared the girls for miles around.

Did you ever take one for a "backy" on it?
Rodge

A friend had a Chopper and his was the only one I ever rode. I had goes on numerous Grifters but I had a Boxer, the smaller version of a Grifter:

and then a Burner the same as this:

Although the hand grips were rubber with red and white spots on them, not foam.
"him"

Ah, the good old "Burner"...

A friend of mine had one of these -

I had one of these at the time

Blarno

Cool old skool bikes. I had 2 choppers: one purple, one yellow. My Brothers had Grifters. I had a Boxer for a while that my mate found in his garage. Paid a fiver for it. I was 15 at the time! It was ace for jumping off things and doing 'ghostriders'.
Pkh72

I saved up my paper round money and bought one of these -

I fitted front and rear stunt pegs and used to go out and practice my stunts after a bit of kick Start fuelled inspiration.
Gurney

Some cracking old bikes there, I had a Raleigh Commando which kind of fitted in between the Chopper and the Grifter, mate had a Chipper - but he was a dwarf..

Anyone seen the new EVO photo collection - stunning is all I can say, particularly fab is a shot of two Zondi, being thrashed through the Alps. Makes you wonder why they have been slipping up recently on some shots.

Yes. Whilst wheeling my daughter about the 'Big Bad city' had a looksee, in WHSMITHS.

She was drooling............so was I. evo has that certain photography sort of covered and the write ups has me slinking away in a quiet corner with a fine white wine..just dreaming of the cars that'll never be within my grasp.

Can we pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee... get back too the T1 question?

900+bhp per ton...0-60 in?..............3.9!

Fvck right off! It must be waaay faster then that! Isn't it the fastest car they've EVER drove................
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

I would imagine traction off the line is the issue; you'll only get the spectacular figures at higher speeds.
simonp

I had a Tomahawk which was a small version of the Chopper and a Budgie before that. Then I got the Grifter.

My youngest brother had a Raleigh Budgie, my middle brother had a Tomahawk, and I had a "Grifter wannabe" called a Viscount Tracker, which was similar except it had drum brakes and front suspension...  (oh and weighed about as much as a small moped!)

But Drum brakes and wet weather were a great combination for huge skids...

Take a look at the lap time table and the diagram. Working out where the Gumpert would be as the T1 crossed the line (by comparing it to the other cars represented on the 'track') shows just how fast it is.

Traction off the line will limit the 0-60 (although 3.9 does seem 'slow') but acceleration in gear must be phenomenal and, perhaps more importantly, the cornering speeds and braking must be mindblowing to clock that time.
