So it's another example of strictly limited numbers so they can charge what they like, and which will most likely escalate in value which will further polish Porsche's halo.  I can see the business case for such, but it seems to show a lack of respect for the punters to my mind.

I wish Porsche would just build more GT products and satisfy demand therefore keeping prices at a realistic level but patience is the name of the game in that market.

The 991 GT3 RS were up at 300k for the first cars but now prices are more realistic (still bloody expensive) at around 200k and the GT4 were all over 100k and a year later although still over list are more reasonable and trade around 80k.

Now I understand why the restrict numbers as it encourages people to buy models like a 991 Turbo or Panamera were Porsche have a load of margin in order to get the special stuff. Ferrari have been doing it for years.

I'm not quite sure I agree with the article that the 911R was a "runaway success" - surely that would be the case if they had actually sold multiples of the numbers they had planned - such as Mitsubishi managed with the Outlander PHEV (it was selling 10 times as many as they had predicted in the UK).

I think it's a mistake by Porsche to limit the numbers as to my mind that only helps line the pockets of the investors rather than them - if they say they'll build 2,000 (I don't know what the real limit is, I don't see it in the article) surely there's still a sensible(ish) limit to what they can actually charge per unit, whereas they could probably have an open-ended production run and charge, say, 5k less per unit but sell 2 or 3 times as many?
I can't see Porsche suddenly ramping the price up to 300k from whatever it was last time round?

Numbers are limited because they are built by Porsche motorsport so are not on the regular production lines .They can only build one model at a time I believe.
Will be interesting given the choice what the manual take up will be ,Ferrari ,Lamborghini and Aston have virtually zero demand .The salesman at Tewksbury told me he hadn't sold 1 manual 991.2 .

I'd think they would get reasonable demand given that a GT3 is much more likely not to be a daily driver and will be something wheeled out for some time on the track or a drive for the sake of going for a drive.

Those that want it for regular road use would be much more likely to choose the PDK

I thInk it will do well,as well as those who actually want one ,some will perceive it as a better investment on the back of the 991r and gt4

Spec looks great to me.  If I were to buy one, it would definitely be a manual.

I believe this is bullshit. And even if it isn't, if you have a product where demand is hugely exceeding supply, you increase capacity to cope. I believe it's called capitalism, or business, or something ...

And in any case, I reckon if Porsche said they'd build as many as people wanted, they'd sell about the same number, as the speculators would drop out. Which would be a totally good thing ...
