Game over, well done!

Is this less obscure than I thought?
Martin

Imported by Reliant apparently.

I didn't know, so used a Google to cheat / find out, but wasn't going to spoil it.

What's it based on?

From first glance it looks like a bastardised Rover 100.

A quick google:

San Motors is an Indian manufacturer trying to establish itself in the auto-sector across the globe. It mainly focuses on designing and developing two-seater sports cars (often termed as coupe) as a very few vehicles are available in this segment in Indian auto industry. San Motors has launched its latest venture in the form of San Storm, a two-seater sports car. It has raised quite an eyebrows with this launch and has received a big thumbs up from the auto-enthusiasts. San Storm is being offered with five premium colors which are Viper Red, Mellow Yellow, Star Silver, Nightfire Red, and Magic Black. All these colors add elegance to the dynamic exteriors, hence heating up the appearance quotient. Furthermore, body color bumpers and body color imported mirrors are like icing on the cake. Additionally, its appearance is also enhanced by the super sporty Alloy Wheels. San Storm comes equipped with a 1.2-litre Renault DF7 petrol engine which also has MPFI as fuel supply system. It has four cylinders and eight valves and it performs considerably well by generating a power output of 60bhp at 5250rpm and a peak torque of 95Nm at 2500rpm. It is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission gear box in order to provide better performance. However, it may not accelerate as much but still it can run on high speeds without much hassle.

Braking and handling section has been provided special attention so that driveability cannot be affected in any way. Ventilated disc with piston sliding calipers front brakes and rear drum brakes have been incorporated in such a manner that even if applied suddenly, there is no crisis and vehicle stops immediately. Rack and Pinion, Semi Collapsible Steering Column grace this wonderful coupe and it turns very smoothly and effortlessly on the narrow turns. San Storm is coupled with good suspension system which works very well throughout the journey. Front suspension is Independent double wishbone, coil over shocks, anti roll bar whereas the rear suspension is Trailing link, coil over shocks, antiroll bar. Both these suspensions carry out their work efficiently and there is no scope of any kind of complaint. Aluminum alloy wheels of size 5J X 13 further consolidate the shade of sportiness. Seat belts with warning light are indulged as the primary safety features for both the occupants. Apart from this, Front Crash Protection beam & Integral FRP Body with metal reinforcements are there to protect the occupants in any case of mis happenings. As this is not much costlier, hence the premium safety features like ABS, EBD, and Airbags doesn't feature in it. San Storm comes with a fuel tank capacity of 36 litres which is adequate.

The interior cabin lacks a bit of plushness as there is not much to praise about. Air-Conditioner is attached but CD/DVD player is missing. Dashboard has been given a leather look and surprisingly, Tachometer is present. Presence of Remote Fuel Release and Remote Boot Release features is appreciable and they greatly helps in reducing the human efforts. There is enough space to put your small belongings in the car in the form of Moulded Door Pads with Magazine Pockets. So, basically the thing is that it may not be as plush or luxurious as some of the other coupes, but it surely is quite spacious and the execution of spacing is really outstanding. In all, San Storm is a decent two-seater sports car and its pricing makes it a interesting buy. It just lacks premium features which are, by any means, not expectable in such a budget-friendly car. Rest of the base necessary features are being offered with it, in order to stay up to the stature of Sports Car.

And another:

panaji (goa): it's india's answer to the renowned sports cars mazda miata and jaguar s-type. the country's first homemade two-seater sports convertible 'san storm' made a silent entry into the already over-crowded car mart this month with a rs 5.3 lakh price tag. rolling out almost 3 years behind schedule, the car is powered by a 1149cc petrol engine, sourced from renault motors of france, that delivers 60bhp. currently burning rubber in the goa, bangalore and ahmedabad markets, the convertible is all set to hit delhi in december. with an acceleration of zero to 100 kmph in under 11 seconds and delivering a fuel economy of over 15 kmpl, the storm is being pitched as a sports car without compromising on practicality. the car, with a reinforced fibreglass body, is being produced at the rs 12-crore goa unit of san motors, the automotive arm of bangalore-based locomotive maker san engineering. "we have already built and sold 30-odd units of the car in the three cities, and are now in the process of finalising the dealer for delhi and chandigarh, which will be the mass markets for us," san motors managing director milind thakker told the times of india . the company has decided to join hands with existing dealers of the various carmakers to retail its sports car across the country. "developing an individual dealer for a niche market product like the storm is not a viable option and so we have decided to go in for existing dealers," he added. the car would be available in 20,000 shades."this huge list of shades is an effort to maintain the exclusivity of the vehicle. a customer can pick his colour and the final car is then made available to him within 2 weeks," the company's corporate planning officer anurag shukla said. san, shukla said, has targeted to produce around one car a day in the initial phase. the company is hopeful of gaining numbers once the car is introduced in delhi and also achieve breakeven in the next fiscal. but this is not the end of the road for the san storm. the firm is also working on a limited edition signature version of the car to be produced exclusively for liquor baron vijay mallya. milind is also looking at the exports markets with its car. "over the next 6 months, we intend to commence exprts to markets like malta and mauritius. we have already received some enquiries for the car from these markets," shukla added. this is also the second venture for renault in india. prior to this, its tractor arm renault agriculture had joined hands with the punjab-based international tractors for a joint venture.

Which is why I stated it was a Google stock image, to allow people to test their knowledge, not their googling skills!

Maybe I should have used a   instead of a   as I didn't actually resort the Google cheat as I have seen one before.
