My wife wants me to get this!

My wife was out and about with her parents today and my F in L was looking at changing his C250 CDi which is now north of 100K.

I don't think he made any real decisions but my wife came back and said she had seen the car I should get next. Apparently I have to forget about a coupe and get something really stylish.

I have to say it looks the part and would save me about 6,500 off a discounted 4 series but I'm not sure I want to be driving a white sports hearse everywhere! Think I'd prefer a 6. Thoughts?

Lovely car in completely the wrong colour.
PG

I'm sure you'll find your wife is correct.

That's the big worry. She started on about a new kitchen last September/October and look what we had a couple of months later.

And the most commonly used words in a marriage....yes dear!

White is very common for these -  agree terrible  colour .Heavy discounts on new up to 20k it seems
Don't think i could lavish that amount on the wife. The girlfriend definitely

Love it, awful colour though

Agree the car is lice, if only it wasn't white. I'd take one over a 4 series any day.

Are you itching to buy it???

Wrong colour, plus the wheels look wrong on it - needs a better set
Martin

Wrong colour of course, but they do have some appeal and they're good value for money.

I think there must have been a sale of ex Merc UK cars recently because there were a whole lot of similar cars on the market at the same time at around 35k. However those are going fast.
Frank Bullitt

Get one before they all go then!

Silver, obviously...
Martin

They look least barge like in Tenorite grey followed by Palladium Silver. (IMHO)

Normal silver is too common!

I prefer the 6.

CLS is the current Merc sweet spot, by a huge margin.

Aside from the colour, everything else about that car is perfect, the interior colour, the wheels and the fact it's not one of the bog awful 250 cdis.

That price is surely a mis print, otherwise that is knocking on for a 50% drop from list (including options).

For that price, I'd live with the colour.

I can't disagree that they are a nice car to look at and appear a very nice place to sit but I have a problem with the size of the thing. It's one thing looking at it but it's another to thread it down country roads or park it. I don't do the long distances regularly anymore and having slept on it, I can admire the CLS but couldn't have one for every day.
It would be great for some days (3 of us going to Turnberry for golf next week) but a pain for most.

Don't think there is a problem with the price and I agree, compared to the full price, it is a bargain. I was on the Merc site last week just browsing and noticed there were several cars around that price with virtually no miles. I think they are just moving them on.

2 years ago I pointed a friend in the direction of a C350 CDi estate because there were about 10 on the Merc site (ex Merc management and staff cars) all with less than 10,000 miles, one year old and between 22K and 25K. He got one from Birmingham for 22.5K in white with Comand, sunroof, electric boot etc etc. It is probably still worth an easy 15K after covering another 30,000 miles.

Double post
Tim

My company MD has an identical car and it is atrocious in white.
He seems to like his Mercedes though.
I'm sure his is leased through Western in Edinburgh

If it is anything like my E-Class it will be a doddle park due to the trademark Benz uber-tight turning circle and front and rear Parktronic. it is much, much easier to park than the Superb was.
TreVoR

Mine is poverty spec in terms of the option list so doesn't have parking sensors. It is way bigger than the Legacy but much easier to park. The gun sight on the front helps as does the fact the rear screen doesn't have a 45 degree rake!
Bob Sacamano

I like the CLS but the styling doesn't work as an estate. It looks like the Ghostbusters mobile.
Roadsterstu

Agree on the colour, it is a bit blingy.  Find one in a more subtle colour and it could be agood choice.
Mark

I love these and would take one over a 4 Series. However, I'd take a 6 Series coupe over the Mercedes (just).

I see you've got the sequel in aswell.Thank god it wasn't the  Friday The 13th franchise  !
Giant

I really like those, but not in white! Saw a gun metal one today, looked nicely menacing.

Mine has front/rear parking but I've got to admit the shear size of the thing can be a problem as Martin probably notices when he sees it.

I love mine (though the CLS is the sweet spot) and enjoy the size but if you used it a lot then that could become an issue.

Problem is that you get used to the luxury of the interior space......not sure what it's replacement might be and the MX5 feels like a midget car by comparison.

EDIT - I think a CLS saloon, especially the original, are fantastic cars inside and out, only downside is 4 seats which was a deal breaker for me.
Racing Teatray

I like these a very great deal. But not in white - it is irredeemably vulgar on a Mercedes, particularly a big one.
