motoGP in the City

Unknown to many Marc Marquez rode across the Millennium Bridge on his World Championship leading RCV today. I found out on Twitter at about 12 o'clock last night so chucked the canon in the rucksack ready for it. I was not disappointed.

He appeared over the horizon...

But couldn't shake off that scooter following him....

I was at the front of a very tiny crown to greet a world champion so got some close-ups....

he stalled it....

But the HRC guy push started him in about 3ft (Hondas are the best!) so he could get on with the scooter race

He did a couple of runs

and I stayed close

and a one handed burn-out was cheered by all (except those wanting to cross the bridge)

Quite a famous young man.... (except in the UK!)

Seriously: if this had been in Spain or Italy you wouldn't have been able to move! I assume that this low profile was so that BT Sport could have low crowds for their filming for this weekend's motoGP show (it's at Silverstone) as opposed a throng of dirty bikers looking unkempt and hairy in the background. Thanks to Mat Oxley (first man to do TT course at over 100mph on a production 250cc) for letting me and a few others know.

Nice pictures. I have no interest in riding motorcycles but that second picture does make the concept of elevated city racing circuits look like a good idea.

I use photobucket and I am actually appalled at how shit the pictures are after they've mashed them. Straight off the camera they are superb (not boasting: the camera and lenses are far better than me)

Allegedly Flickr is better - still not brilliant mind, but better. I hate the UI since it was bought over though - not really very user friendly at all.

Great pictures. That bridge really is a terrible piece of design.

Why?  Looks great and it's fun to use.
